It makes for an impressive display, but it does seem a shame to use a complete looking aircraft for something that doesn't see it doing what it was meant to do, fly!! I guess it would have been closely scrutinised when installed to ensure that it wasn't viable for future use/restoration.

The aircraft is a DC3 and basically no longer an economically viable aircraft.
