Re: ok cub co2 engine size
I just found here: http://www.mecoa.com/museum/archive1.html that the OK CO2 first went into production in 1947. Sorry for the mis-information. I was only six years old then. My Bad.

Nope, the cartridge is charged. You just need to back the nut off a smidgen at a time. When/if you hear it start to leak, tighten it just a bit, and flip her over. She'll go...

Re: ok cub co2 engine size
The engine works by the post on top of the piston poking the ball bearing seal in the head, allowing gas to escape and push the piston down. As the piston comes down it once again allows the ball to seal the head. Use some oil on/in it. I never read the instructions but I would guess that the crankcase hole is to add a little oil. Remember... there is no oil in the CO2.
Also note that it will run backwards...just like a reedie. :-)

Re: ok cub co2 engine size
Hi Mitch,
There were actually three different versions of the Herkimer CO2 engine. The first version was a knock off they bought the manufacturing rights to from another company and later made some modifications, these were made from '47 thru '52 and had a displacement of .0178. The third version, a redesigned OK version made from 1961 to 1964 had a displacement of .019. The Replacement cartage holders made after '53 were anodized red, so in all likely hood its probably a later model.
