MP JET .061
I have mentioned the MP Jet .061 line of glow engines here before and was surprised at how many people did not know about them. The .061 started life as a diesel and then became a glow engine. I think that it is an wxceptionally well made little engine. It can have a plain or dual ball bearing supperted crank shaft and a venturi pr throttled carb. The carb can be either single or double needle. The engines are very robust, probably owing to their diesel heritage. They are made by the MP Jet company in Czechoslovakia. I am including a general smattering of pics of some MP Jet .061's.

fit90, never heard of them.
After a quick search, found this.
Very interesting. Gotta bone up on my Polish though.

Re: MP JET .061
The MP Jet is an excellent engine and I would rank it on par or ahead of the NORVEL. I was glad to see the link Bob posted. I had thought that MP had converted exclusively to electric production, but the catalog appears to indicate that the .061 has been re-introduced. They are not inexpensive, however.
Re: MP JET .061
Excellent little engines and you certainly have some fine examples. I heard they're back in production once again. I do know Carlson imports was carrying them and he has them still listed on his site. I tried e-mail several times with no luck. Ken

Re: MP JET .061
They are back in production. I believe they are only offering the ball bearing .061 glow though. The last time I checked, which was probably a year ago, they were approximately $150.00 US each. I haven't looked since then. I think there is a link on RCU to the website of a dealer. I just got lucky and purchased two NIB .061 PB venturi engines from an English dealer. They are torquey engines and can easily and comfortably handle a seven inch prop. This makes them very versatile. They are heavy, though.

By the way, Ed Carlson is a great guy to deal with. He introduced me to MP Jets seveeral years ago. If he does not respond to an email try the phone number on his website. He is a very nice man and really knows his stuff.

Re: MP JET .061
Hi Bob, this is great news. I've always been a fan of the MP Jet. I don't own one but a fellow club member does. I was really impressed by the engine . The Shuriken in the pic is mine it's a .051. I have another that's .049 and I do use it. The one in the pic is just one for admiring. My runner is in need of bearings. These are a bit hard to find. Although Boca does carry them I'm told the performance isn't quite as good as the originals. They're actually quite heavy. The Shuriken weighs as much as a Tee Dee.09. I want to experiment with my runner a bit more. I truly believe the APC 4.6 x 3 will get the engine in the happy zone. Ken

Ken -
You might want to give RC Bearings a look. He has a number of bearings sized for our usage, in both English and metric.
I've used Boca for engine bearings and for other applications, but they, like most other US companies, have been pushed into the Chinese market, consequently, quality is most usually suspect at best and poor at worst.

Re: MP JET .061
I have the BB diesel version that Carlson offered with both throttle and venturi. It is an excellent runner. I believe that setup was ~$75.00 at the time. Not sure I would pay $150.00 for one.shawn cook wrote: Excellent little engines and you certainly have some fine examples. I heard they're back in production once again. Carlson is best reached by phone. If he's there, he will answer. I called one Sunday morning expecting to leave a phone message for an order and he picked up. He was on his way to go flying I believe, but he took the order.

Re: MP JET .061
Nice topic Bob.
Wish I knew a couple months back when
Looking for an alternative to the slightly
'Lacking' throttled KB Old/timer combo.
I was surprised to find that even the Thunder
Tiger GP 07 lacked a low end needle
Which is why I plumped for the td09
In the end.

For those in europe you can find both the MP jet engines and plenty of spare parts, dedicated engine mounts, Al spinners etc. here; topmodel.fr
The Thunder tiger 07GP does have a low end adjustment, it is an adjustable airbleed. That's more than what OS bothers to do on their .10 engines...

I think this is the one: http://www.halfa-works.com/index.html

Tim Wiltse was responsible for making those spinners. He's been MIA for some time and hasn't been responding to e-mails. I really like what he does for Cox engines. Ken

his lightened reedie cranks and spinners were a thing of beauty.
His and Dale Kirn's parts are my most valuable.
