Atwood and Fury Engines from Ebay
The three latest arrivals at the Skunk Works get their initial soaking and de-gooping...
Got myself a very runnable Atwood .049, with timer tank, and two Fury .049's. One of the Fury's just needs some gaskets and TLC (haven't tested the glowhead yet), while the other has had a hard life and is missing it's thrust washer and needle.
I may try again to get some parts from MECOA. An attempt to buy parts for another Atwood from the store about a year ago sort of just vaporized, with no communication back from the guys, though several Ebay purchases have sailed right through. Could have been my fault, but don't know.
The history of all the interactions between these men and the companies that marketed their engines continues to fascinate me...while giving my poor brain WAY too many roads to travel. I think a "Family Tree" diagram for these things would be great, and give us retention-deprived types a visual picture of their history.

Sounds like a good collaboration for Boesen and Mudhen. I'd like to see a family tree too, but I would hate to be the one to try and assemble it.Kim wrote:...The history of all the interactions between these men and the companies that marketed their engines continues to fascinate me...while giving my poor brain WAY too many roads to travel. Re: Atwood and Fury Engines from Ebay
I agree - I had trouble differentiating the Holland Wasp from the Atwood Wasp!
I also have issues with Allbon, DC and Frog 049 engines. Not easy to spot from a low res picture.
I like to see engines primed for restoration, soaking and ready for a good fettle.
This chap is a good source for missing bits and pieces (but not cheap!)

Re: Atwood and Fury Engines from Ebay
lol, i've kinda been doing that for the last 11-12 years...its just takes forever! I've got 4,000 photos and info posted on my web site....but only a small amount of info posted...maybe i'll get'er done in another ten years.
P.S.
Kim, that Fury looks large, could it be a .07?

Re: Atwood and Fury Engines from Ebay
First version had 'Fury' & '.049' cast on side, in 1955 K&B revised engine in 1955, they dropped .049 from case, probably as they planned to use same case for their new .074
Introduced in Sept. of 1957. Only recognizable difference from the .049 is the extended prop driver, also notice the larger 7” wooden prop.

lol, i went...those were mostly from swap meets, with the purpose to resell.
Gasket Info?
Anybody know what makes up the fibrous gasket that these things have under the head? Wondering if I can home-make one....

Hi Kim,
Did you see my post on the Sky Fury..I think it's a .074?
The gasket material looks like the same stuff you'd use on a old carburetor, dark gray fiber material.

Hey Mark,
Sorry I missed your post on the Fury. I'll look at it again and see if there are any markings !
Thanks for the tip on the gasket...kinda thought that's what it might be, I've even got a package of "Perfect"brand gasket material stuck away somewhere...have to chase it down.
Thanks Again !
