Enjoy the quite of the mountains --- it's getting more rare.

And be sure to gaze at the stars. It's been a long time since I've been far enough from light pollution to make out the band of the inner Milky Way. Used to be able to lay on the beach and stargaze, but 30 miles up the coast from my beach is the teaming abomination known as Myrtle Beach pumping light up for everyone to bask in.andrew wrote:Enjoy the quite of the mountains --- it's getting more rare.
We went to the summit of Mount Mitchell, NC one time to find an astronomy club setting up. After dark, they were more interested at showing us what they could see than anything else... kind of like we are with new visitors to our airplane fields. They had auto tracking equipment and some serious scopes. The brightest longest streaking meteor I've ever seen shot across the sky to a standing ovation from everyone there. Lots of people don't even realize all that's up... out there.
Enjoy.
