What's it's purpose?
Is it necessary?

I'm resurrecting an .049B and the new insert small end is ~.020 larger than the venturi.
Don't want to hassle w/trying to turn it down or drill the venturi to fit unless it's needed.

Thanks.

From what I remember, those were to help fuel draw, aid in starting and clear the plastic cowl on many of the Comet models, although small they didn't seem to damper performance.

I was recently given a couple of OK Cubs, one with a tank and the other for an external tank. Haven't cranked them yet. How do they compare in performance to Cox front rotary valve engines?
Welcome to CEF, Terry.

Tnx Rusty -

From what I gather, if you want to go slow, they're MUCH better than Coxes. Thumbs Up

I've read it's a rare Cub that'll turn 15K - 9 to 12K's more normal, depending on prop, and they need at least 25% nitro, 25% castor.
Disclaimer: I haven't run any of mine yet, so this isn't from experience.

I'm sure there are lotsa folks here who can speak with authority on 'em.

regards,

Terry

It's probably better to compare them to a reedie and at that likely less...but still cool.

I had my eye on this Comet Starfighter but it went to high, what is the blue and white Comet in the photo.

There's a site w/info on mods for hopping up Cubs if someone wanted to do so - says 18K possible, but maybe on the verge of self-destruction.
In re: venturi insert - one of the mods is opening up the venturi.
A search for OK Cub'll find it - sorry I can't post the link - haven't been here long enough yet.

Same search'll list a history of OK diesels (I like diesels), reading which resulted in my great appreciation for OK's part in the history of model airplanes.
They aren't Norvels or Tee Dees, not even Babe Bees, but untold thousands of young'uns in the 50s like me learned to fly with them - they were 'Kid affordable".
I've come to appreciate them for what they are, not for what they'll do.

O'course, that's how I excuse myself too. lol!

yep, the Starfighter is the one Comet plane i'm missing, along with the T-38 but that one is so rare, its almost unknown..and of course I passed on bidding on the only one i'd ever seen, but that's another story.

The Blue/white plane is called a 'Regulas' a missile/plane much like the Comet Snark. Check out my web site 049 Collectors, theres a ton of pics of old plastic RTF's. The Regulas was a also made in brown and white, but not as common.
