Olympic .15 with prototype drum valve. I guess only about 50 of them have ever been made.
Re: We have a tie! Cox engine of the month
It's a very elegant looking machine, something I would like to have, I think. That is if it runs as good as it looks.
It's also nice that your knuckles aren't a centimeter from the prop when adjusting the needle valve. I almost exposed the bone with my TD .049 tonight. Got lucky, no blood.

You can get regular Olympic .15s on eBay. Here's one! I have been watching this one for the last few days, I have bid on them before but I usually drop out around $50, chances are in the last hours, this one will also hit $50 and above. http://www.ebay.com/itm/L-M-Cox-Thimble-Drome-Olympic-015-Glow-Engine-/360408889821?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53ea0b39dd
Re: We have a tie! Cox engine of the month
One of those rear drum Olympic 15s went on eBay a while back for about $760.
Here it is here
Again, I couldnt justify spending those sort of $ for an engine

When I win the lottery! Then I'll buy all that kind of crap. I remember seeing a Venom sell for over $700!

When I get back from helping my dad combine corn I'll post a thread on this engine and the mold process.

I did. This is the engine that was on eBay back in January that went for $760. I am in the process of making a new carb body for it. I have the rubber tool mold created. I just need to find material that can withstand methanol. I have new carb bodies made out of urethane but they get soft after exposed to glow fuel.

That is cool! How did you feel after you won the auction? (Sweet, I won it! or Dammit, I won it!)
Re: We have a tie! Cox engine of the month
I think it would have went for more if the auction ended at a different time than midnight. I made the bid within the last minute of the auction. I never expected to win it but I did.
Does anyone actually know how many of these were made? I've seen 25 and then Martin's site has 50 as the actual number.

I dont know for sure, but the general consensus is 50 were made and only 2 had mounting ears on the carb body.
Cheers
Re: We have a tie! Cox engine of the month
Speaking of production figures I heard that Cox made more than 1000 Venoms but someone made up that number to get a higher price for theirs.
Anyone heard of this?
Anyone heard of this?
Re: We have a tie! Cox engine of the month
The '1000' figure came from Dan Sitter I think. He said the initial production run was for 1000 engines. When they discovered that there was a problem with them, rather than fix it, they just didnt make anymore.
