Cox Engine of The Month
Cox Special .15 mkll ?
Cox Special .15 mkll ?
Very pleased to have got this engine for my (small) collection. It was listed as new and unmounted . Seemed to be a few big hitters in the bidding going by their feedback numbers but it maxed out at $217. It was listed as a Cox Special .15 but with my limited knowledge (and the Cox model engine handbook) it appears to be a mkll unless it’s a fake of course.

Re: Cox Special .15 mkll ?
Thanks for the reassurance. I was surfing eBay under the heading Cox Special looking for parts for Cox Special tether cars when this popped up with 43mins left to go. I didn't have a lot of time for research and suddenly felt I just had to have it. Then after I got it the doubt started to set in but sounds like all is well.

Re: Cox Special .15 mkll ?
Thnks Steve. I only purchased the engine off eBay on Sunday so it will be ten days or so before I get it in the flesh but it's looking very good even it it was a bit expensive. Having had a good forage through the CEF posts and books etc I am starting to pick up on the odd thing that's not what people say or think it is but still have a long way to go.

Re: Cox Special .15 mkll ?
Yes thats correct I took mine apart to inspect and re-oil to observe design -
3 intake bypass ports (one vertical & 2 slanted)
This engine can run with a tuned pipe with the single exhaust. It has SPI can shim it out if you want.
Note you can source a Medallion throttle sleeve for simple throttle control or with the aluminum carb body you can mount a modern carburetor.
Mine has never been run was a 1 owner collector engine. I plan to run it and enjoy!
I won mine on ebay too for 168 if I recall. Huge compression fun to flip over after you oil it. Compact and light for its day.
