Box-o-Engines has Arrived!
Ebay Santa has delivered my little Treasure-Chest of Magic Metal!!!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251059648700?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
I ran a quick inventory while in my Orthopedic Surgeon's waiting room, and everything is accounted for, so I'm giving the seller an across-the-board thumbs-up.
One RR-1 is in not-bad running shape, while the other is a bit rougher. I'd brought along enough tools to take a rudimentary peek in their backside, and all the main chunks are there.
The Tee Dee .010 looks to be in real good shape, and the three Pee Wee's look to be good stock for runners and have all their lugs, but curiously, no screens among them! They've also been the victims of someone's engraver, with little ant footprints walking around on their case sides.
The two Babe Bees are your typical, highly abused foot-soldier types, with one having a good-sized hole cut in it's tank (Woo...custom engine mount time!), along with a cruded-up cylinder/piston/case relic.
There's a silver-backplate postage stamp engine that I think Micro called a Spook engine that has some pretty deep external corrosion, but may give a shot at buffing it out.
The Olympic (my main interest ) has some impressive rust, so he's up for the hot-oil treatment.
I'll post photos as each get's their turn on the autopsy table...probably starting tomorrow. I got tagged to shoot video at a Catholic Wedding on Saturday, and so have a giant crater blown in the middle of my 3-day weekend, but maybe I'll get some good stuff done anyway.

Nice score Kim.
That is indeed a "Spook" engine, but I am not sure of their going price. The NIB ones pull some good $$$.
Selling any of it?

At the risk of seeming a 'bit previous' I'd like to enter first dibs on the 'unwanted' one.........

So, what, you spread out come Cosmopolitans and People mags and set up shop right there in the Doc's office!?Kim wrote:I ran a quick inventory while in my Orthopedic Surgeon's waiting room, and everything is accounted for, so I'm giving the seller an across-the-board thumbs-up...

Yeah...I was running a bit late for my appointment, but decided to check my mail box on the way out. The Magic Box was in there, so I took time to hoof it back up the hill, rubberband some wrenches and screwdrivers in a blue paper towel, and hit out for the physical therapy session they're doing to get my shoulder back to 100%.
With that done (all the agonizing while with the Magic Box waiting in the Night Train's Trunk), I had to have a surgeon review the notes from the session, so I got myself a nice, wide bench a corner of waiting room and tore into this stuff. Probably the first time in my life when I APPRECIATED a 10:55 appointment that took 'till 11:35 for me to get called !!!!
I made sure that the RR-1s' had their rotors, but that was about it. The Olympic is gonna need some careful, cautious love before it's innards get checked.
And yes the magazine selection is mighty poor...figure I may slide back by and "seed" the place with a few recent Model Aviation and Sport Aviation mags !!!

Hey Micro, you called it you get it. Yeah, I'm intending to keep the Olympic and recycle the rest out to the forum, with hopes of the the balance coming out to my getting reasonable deal on the .15.
The RR-1's already have dibs thrown on them...just got to work out some decent "none-rip-off" prices on them...once I'm done with them.
Gonna take me a while to get organized...got some other non-fun stuff I'm committed to.
The month of June, however, is gonna be "All Kim...All the Time"...I'm going stealth and claiming all my weekends for my own silly, selfish fun!

Re: Box-o-Engines has Arrived!
I might be interested in the .010 if you decided to sell it.
No rush though.
No rush though.
Cox Olympic .15
Got up early to show some attention to this Olympic .15, and it turned out to be a very friendly engine.
I made a half-hearted effort to pull the cylinder/piston, but when it put up a fight, I simply soaked the whole thing for a while and then tried turning it over with a prop. To my surprise, it broke loose quite easily, so I just dodged on doing any damage to the fins. The engine seemed REALLY clean on the inside for a "lay-around" type.
The thing cranked up without too much messing around, and went up to the low 14's on a Master Airscrew 8-4 on Sig 15%.
If I get a chance, I'll post some video of it on the stand, but the photos pretty well cover the deal.
Now, to introduce it to the Big B.O.T. !!!!!

Looks good, I need to try the dremel method of shining the heads again. Last time I did, the head flew across the room.
