Cox Engine of The Month
1/2A Racer

1/2A Racer
Anyone ever heard of this model?
Supposedly it came out mid-late 70's and was featured in MAN.
Reason I ask is I met a feller today that flipped his wig when I told him I was into 1/2A He really wants to build this model since he saw the feature in the 70's. I told him if the plans exist then somebody on here has heard about it and probably knows where to find the plans.
Thanks Guys,
Ron

If the man said it was called 1/2a Racer then he may have been mistaken. It may have been a 1/2a racer. People I talk to get mixed up like that quite a bit. Then again, there may be a plane with that title.

Yeah that was my guess. Perhaps he was thinking of 1/2A pylon racer. It probably had a name..... Just he didn't think so.

Re: 1/2A Racer
Ron, do you know the engine it used, a reedie or possibly TD? I have several racers here. I have the Spullet a Dale Kirn design. I also have the Torky which I believe is another Dale design. I have a few other mouse racers kitted by Midwest. Ken

I don't think the guy knows and neither do I. I could ask him though.
He is an owner of a very small Hobby Shop in small town Roberta GA.
Funny story, as I pulled up to the store which is located on a 48 acre flying field, the owner was out back flipping the prop on an old bird trying to get it to start. It was a small trainer with.....a black widow on it. The guy who owned it was frustrated and wasn't listening to my suggestions. He muttered about going electric to which I replied it was a mistake. Then I offered him $10 for the Widow.

His loss my gain..... I tried to talk sense to him but, he wouldn't hear it. So I did what any reasonable man would do. I bought the engine off him!

You did the right thing Ron.
Now the Balck Widdow is in
safe, appreciative hands.
Who knows where it might have ended up.
