Re: music vids.. some of your favorites
Dave, not long ago there was a discussion on Stunt Hangar about control line modeling the Globe Swift, a pleasant and reasonably fast 4 place pre-WW2 compact business class all metal single engine low wing aircraft.HalfaDave wrote:Hi gg, Amazing music, as usual... Thanks, I always like your 'take' on music. Samantha Fish knows her place, between the band, and the crowd... WOW ! Brilliant, talent, has no bounds...
I some how like mandolins, reminds me of needling .049s... Not that much in Canada, Can you hook me up?
After a few on-topic posts, a young man posted a photo of Taylor Swift then commented, "What is there not to like about the Swift?"
Someone older probably senior like me piped in, "High maintenance costs, very high."
As far as a mandolin goes, it is tuned similar to an 8 string ukulele, with the 3rd set of strings from the top tuned to "D" instead of "E". For all tense and purposes, one could tune the 3rd set up one note, then use standard soprano ukulele fingering.
I usually buy my instruments from Musician's Friend, bought a Rogue (Chinese brand) entry level mandolin for my son for under $100 several years ago, then bought another as a gift with soft case, tuner and book for around $100 US. You may have a music store in Canada that does mail order and has good prices (if importation fees are too high). I prefer them over E-Bay, unless I really know who the seller is. In the past, I bought two guitars I thought were bargains, their finish was rather in the rough. At least with MF, they do prescreen what they sell you at least you know you are getting something of musical quality and reasonable finish.
However as far as Samantha Fish goes, if you could afford her, now that she has become a mainstream musician, she probably is "high maintenance" like Taylor.

Hi gg,
I like learning, and having a laugh on the way,
Thanks,
I was thinking a nice running Cox.049, is like a Mandolin. with a needle valve.
I'll get some 15%, learn to do pictures here, it will be easier.
Than a Mandolin...
I somehow broke google...
Asked for 1/2A Mandolin, and it spat this out,
It could be about the internet,
I am not sure,
I https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=telegraph+road+youtube#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:f720efc8,vid:_4E_924b9SU
I feel safe here on this Cox Engine Forum,
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Hi All,
ChoirChoirChoir is a Toronto based organization that gets people to sing together.
Here is one they did outdoors, downtown Toronto, April, 2019.
All proceeds went to Cancer research.
Perfect song, when the days get longer...

Hi All,
I have not heard all the music here...
(close to half the 23 pages though !)
It is amazing.
I just got back from shovelling slush. ([bleep] snow in Canadian)
Put my headphones on, to warm up.
This song came up:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNBhLPjxhoI
Jann is an awesome Canadian Artist....
I sent her an e-mail.
Asked if she can shovel snow.
"Better than you" is the reply...
I am in Love...
With mandolines too...
Dave

For a little self indulgence on my part, here's a clip of our band last Saturday night. Got to be the quickest version of Orange Blossom Special that we've ever played. You can tell by the occasional venture into "shabbiness" every now and then. That's me doing my best to keep up on the bass.

The back 25 pages of great music here is Great, Try it !!!
Stumbled across mandolin and a voice that sounds like a Cox engine on song:

@Roddie, for posting.
It appears that Rick Wakeman is using the venerable Moog synthesizer, electronic music at its best 51 years ago. Until I saw your video posting, I remember some of the Moog work, special sound effects used in various artist recordings, but not the the extent expressed by Rick Wakeman.
Video credits wrote:Live at the Rainbow Theatre, London, UK.
15 & 16 Dec 1972 ('Close to the Edge' Tour)
Jon Anderson - lead vocals
Chris Squire - bass guitar, backup vocals
Steve Howe - electric and acoustic guitars, backup vocals
Rick Wakeman - keyboards, synthesiser, organ
Alan White - drums

Re: music vids.. some of your favorites
Many new guys don't know me and a lot of CEF disdens know me too well. I must say CEF has been a serious touch stone keeping me going when life depresses too much.
On this day in 2005 I lost my dad to agent orang cancers. Was there.
Some of you can relate but to be sure the Harry Carpenter song "Cats and the Cradle" accurately describes me and my dad.
I was born to an Army officer in 1955 Army hospital. Junior officers much like enlisted men have literally zero control of their lives. But my dad, when he could took the time to teach me so many important live skills. tools, mechanical things, hunting, electrical trouble shooting and repair, Building various stuff like heath kit radios and back yard fences. Taking care of a dog and my siblings. Grilling/BBq, driving, and dealing with bully's and girls.
Unfortunately as a teen ager and Dad in the Nam, I turned into a long haired dope smoking "independent thinker". On his return we clashed deeply. Eventually he giving me the "my way or the Highway" speech at age 17...I chose poorly ( for context we were in Oakland CA while he was in the Nam and I went to a Liberal School High School in Berkeley CA when Timothy Leery, Huey Newton, Angela Davis, and Patty Herst (google if ignorant of the significance )
Upon turning 18 I by law registered for the draft...and was damn near immediately selected...Grrrr
As Army brat I knew (not enough) that I did not want to learn how to be Infantry soldier in Viet Nam so I went to the MEpps (local recruiters) Station and saw a recruiter and made a slightly better deal t deliberately enlist for 4 years and a $2500 bonus.
This enraged my Officer Dad because he knew I had the smarts for college and pissed it away on drugs and Tail...too true
WE never spoke for 15 years. So He was unaware that I was pretty damned good at my job and reenlisted many times and became a Senior Non Commissioned Office fairly early in my career.
On a trip after my second marriage to current wife. we went to west coast to see my mom and up to see grandma then over to Ft Bn to adjust military records then back to Ft Hood to continue our Aviation Jobs. My Dad and mom had just divorces and both in the Sacramento CA area. I and new wife dropped in and Daddy dearest was astounded that I was a senior NCO as was my New wife. In a long, just the two of us, Hot tub and scotch(s) (many) he and I buried the hatchet in 1983.
Alas Army sent Renie and Me to Germany ( our best ever tour) and I never got to see my dad for many years.
The song is key to this long tome
Ultimately the Army sent us back to Forth Hood where I retired in 1996 as Renie went on another Korea tour...to return and immediately go to Sergeants Majors academy 1998 at Fort Bliss TX for 10 Months.
Around 2004 Dad was diagnosed with small cell brain Cancer, Agent Orange associated and not long to live...next 7 months I or Renie and I went to See him 4 times.
Lost him on this day 2005 and today I am always emotional and every year play this song and bawl like a baby because it is exactly how my dad and I lived
Listen and shed a tear with me

I spent 4 different tours in real shooting combat zones from 73 to 96. In Desert Storm I survived a Huey crash with significant injuries...but this isn't about me or my combat experiences.
I had the Honor twice in my career to Be casualty assistance Officer and notify and help the family of a deceased soldier.
And Once I had the Honor to escort a Hero from combat zone to Dover and on to Forth Worth, and then Burial site where I was the commander of the Honor squad rendering Honors and the Echoing Taps
These next three songs are very significant to me
