Phishing email from someone posing as you
Ron, I’m guessing you didn’t send this to me. I Alllmost clicked the link. But I didn’t. At first glance, I thought it might be a joke or something. A closer look froze my clicking finger.

I saw other CEF names in the recipients list, so thought I better post it here.

Re: Phishing email from someone posing as you
I did not git this one, but HAVE gotten others
I NEVER click links in e-mails or a from forum posts from folks I do not know
I do, however, let Goggle Chrome search some "links" -----and decide later if they are legit or gonna spawn countless web pages of non sense
Fortunately my AVG keeps me out of trouble most of the time..... grin

Re: Phishing email from someone posing as you
I have never received messages like these (yet). I will let the forum host (Forumotion) know about this. There was likely a breach somewhere, probably of the entire Forumotion software (affecting everyone using their forum hosting service).
Good catch Rusty on spotting that it wasn't actually sent by Ron. Email addresses are not actually visible to forum users, you can send an email to another user (if the user allows it through their settings) through the forum. The message that will be received by the recipient will state that it was sent through the forum.

Guys,
I am really sorry. I know my account has been hacked, but I have no idea what to do about it. These messages do not show up in my sent box and it’s not the first time it’s happened either.

If I may ask, how do you know your account has been hacked? Not saying that it isn't, just asking so I, or others would know if our accounts were hacked in the same fashion. Thank you.

Well, someone is using my email address to send stupid crap without my knowledge. I am not up on my nerd bomber PC street lingo, so maybe hacked is not the proper term, but pretty sure somebody is using my account in a way I didn’t authorize.
In the email Rusty shows, the people that received the bogus email were all in my personal contacts. The only way that could happen is if someone has access to my account. I don’t know how to stop it and I have no way of knowing it’s even happening.
Jacob,
I think it’s my personal account.

Rusty, can you change the title of the thread so it doesn’t look like I am an internet criminal?

Thank you. I was just not sure, that is why I asked. Much appreciated. I had originally thought it was your account here that was compromised.

Re: Phishing email from someone posing as you
I'll change the title, Ron.
Jacob, this had nothing to do with the forum, someone just intercepted Ron's contact list from who knows where, maybe a similar Phishing mail that escaped his eye gave them access. Run Malwarebytes just in case whenever something fishy happens. I usually run it prior to mt twice weekly system image backup.
If you ever find out someone has gotten a message posing as you, just go to your email host website and change your email password. Not much else you can do. It happens all the time. If I'd clicked on it and then realized it was bogus, I would have immediately gone to my aol.com mail host and changed my Password. They could have already copied my contacts by then, and some of my friends may have gotten phished, but that would basically be the end of it.
Usually no big deal, but friends let friends know they've been phished.
