COX Sportsman 15 hole in piston
Hi COX family,
I have been self isolating at home for two weeks now and been busy reloading ammunition for LaterRon. Also, it has given me time to clean and rebuild a few COX engines which have been on the to-do list for a couple of years. I started off with the 15 size engines. Two medallions were stripped down, cleaned, lubricated and rebuilt and I must say look really good now. Next was a Sportsman 15 reedy. Unfortunately, it has a small hole in the top of the piston which makes it unserviceable. I contacted Matt and Bernie and discovered that spare pistons for the Sportsman 15 are rarer than hens teeth!
Does anyone have a piston or piston and cylinder that I could purchase to rebuild my engine. I cannot let it sit alone in the spares box without at least trying to find a piston.
Thanks and cheers from Queensland in Australia

If I recall correctly, the olympic and the early medallion use the same piston. You can broaden your search that way.
By hole do you mean the connecting rod ball push through the piston crown?

Thankyou Ron,
Yes, there is a tiny hole directly above the con rod. You can see it moving around through the hole!
I was not aware of your suggestion. I might wait for others to chip in with their advice as well.
How early would the Medallion need to be?
Thankyou, Mike

Re: COX Sportsman 15 hole in piston
I was wondering about pre-ignition holes in these engines. Sunbird If you can, could you put up some photo's of the hole?
I'm currently working on porting the pistons in these engines and need more info on detonation on these engines.
