Going through some of my old engines, I noticed this odd [049] glow head in my stash (was not in an engine). The inside is a nice sounded concave shape and most curiously, the glow element is "W" shaped.
Is this some really old glow head?

It's the famous "W" Element.  Short-lived experiment back in the day!

Famous? Or Infamous! We did have a brief discussion a while back. But, I agree with Kims “short lived experiment”

Early to mid 1970s. Had quite a few. Often would slow down when the battery clip was disconnected. Low compression. Never liked them, and always changed to the TD head.

Yeah, I was going through some old engines in the rebuild pile a couple of weeks ago and found one in the bunch. I now have two of the buggers. I've never tried to run one, though.
