Cox Engine of The Month
Can you identify this Glow Head?

Can you identify this Glow Head?
Found this glow head on a babe bee and I have never seen it before. It appears to have been modified to accept a cox wrench. Without the modification, I do not see how it would have been installed on any engine as there appears to be no way to attach a wrench. The glow head internally looks like a standard low compression cox glow head but is externally quite different. It's a pretty cool looking glow head. Does anyone have any ideas on where it came from? Thanks, Andy

Re: Can you identify this Glow Head?
I have seen these before, I can't remember if they were for another engine or were sold as an aftermarket part. I want to say they were an aftermarket part but I can't recall. I'll try to search for it.
Re: Can you identify this Glow Head?
Its a Testors, they where originally plated a gold color, looks like someone took a file or lath to it to clean it up. Theres suppose to be flat spots for a wrench on it.

Mark, If you blow up the top photo, you'll see
the flats. Thet look really slight. Bet a lot
wrenches slipped off these.

Yep it is, I tried to put an arrow on the flat spot, but the left arrow is off a little, if you look a little to the right of point you can see where it becomes flat.I don't think these were big sellers.
The company that bought out Holland, also offered glowheads for Cox models in the early sixties. The Herkimer Cub glowhead also fit the Cox engines.
(Wrong photo)

Re: Can you identify this Glow Head?
The glow head on my engine has the same flats although they don't appear as pronounced. If you look in the photo you can actually see them. They fit the cox wrench perfectly and I was able to remove it without any problems. The glow head on my engine is silver and not gold. When things warm up, I will give it a run and see how good it works. Thanks, Andy

Hi Eric, If you have a crankcase the same color as the one in the photo, I believe it's from an early "Golden Bee" .049 Reed-valve engine. The engine in the photo looks to be made-up of all Cox parts... except for the glow-head.

Not all were gold.

The lower left engine is the Golden Bee mentioned above.
