Take the propeller off if it is on, then slide the spring over the driveplate of the engine, and hook it around the cylinder. Then add the starter cam. Replace propeller, then done. Just Google the type of engine you have and you will see it, and how it looks when fully assembled.

The big loop on the spring hooks around the base of the cylinder. You should easily be able to find a picture.

It looks OK..remember to put the grey cam on the hexagonal drive plate. The small hook on the spring should engage the cam when rotated clockwise (when looked at from the prop end).

Slow down a bit. The engine is probably locked up from sitting for a long time. In that case you have to disassemble to free it up. I wish I was able to help you with it. This is really something you and Your Dad Or Mom should do together with you. Don’t force anything as it may break.

You may get away with dropping some rubbing alcohol or acetone down into the cylinder and slowly work the prop back and forth. Again ask your parents.

No the engine isn’t stuck. It’s the spring. Will the heli work without spring

You don't need the spring starter. However, being new to this, I highly recommend them. A Cox engine will run forwards or backwards and the spring prevents that from happening. The cam which you mention is the gray colored circular part with the hex cutout in the middle. The prop needs to be removed and then the cam is placed with the flat side facing out while the notched side faces the spring. Install the prop, this may also take some fiddling because depending on where the spring is engaging the cam, you might need to rotate and retighten the prop.

So, looks like you're off to a good start by getting the spring on. Did you try rotating the engine without the spring on? If so, did you see the piston moving up and down in the cylinder through the exhaust? If you did, the engine is not stuck. If I am reading you correctly, after you installed the spring and plastic cam, you tried spinning the prop and it does not turn?

Ok. After reading it again, I have another question. When the spring and cam are installed, are you winding the propeller clockwise when viewed from the front of the engine? If so, it will only rotate a turn and a half or so before not turning anymore. You should only turn the prop a turn, and then let go and it should quickly rotate the opposite direction by the action of the spring starter.

Wingchicken, it seems that you installed cam first. It is on crankcase, wrong. First you must install spring, then install cam. Grey plastic cam must be installed on brass hexagon shaped part, not on crankcase.

Note the plastic cam fits over the “hex” of the prop drive plate, then the prop is attached.

Yes after I installed those the prop wouldn’t spin

I literally did install the spring and cam

Prop wouldn’t spin on cam

But after I took those off it did spin

I don’t know what to do anymore

are you shure about this?
if you are sure
is it possible that you have damaged the drive plate
or tightent the prop to fast (this presses the drive plate to the engine)

Also, as you want to learn, maybe it is time for you to possibly get your parents involved and let them read some of this and have them help you out. Or also, maybe go to a local hobby shop or club to get some hands on help from someone with experience. Just another way to learn.
