Strange stuff is happening

I just received a bunch of fresh notifications about topics posted back in March 2020, mostly about locomotives but also Kim's Little Traveler 11th anniversary post (double hit) with no today update. These fell off the cliff months ago. Curious.

I think it's a testimony to the the admins' vigilance, and the quality of the membership here that this hasn't happened before now...ESPECIALLY when compare to similar groups!

Other than some that joined just for the chance to be obnoxious, I've seen amazingly few conflicts among those of us who love to pursue this great stuff.

Not much to add to Kim's well spoken comments.

Some groups I've read (not modeling) are so contentious that the purpose of the group is lost. For whatever reason, maybe the anonymity of the internet, many seem to have lost the ability to have a difference of opinion without making a personal attack.

Besides being so informative, folks here, for me, have always been helpful, courteous and, in general, just good people. That's why CEF is on my menu bar and one of the first reads of my morning.

I seen those too even left a Gmail address but i didn't pursue .. great99 wasn't it ?

I mean what was this persons motive? I see little gain for him/her other than harassment.

I guess the most common gain for those scammers is that if you response in any way at all, even if it is just a polite message to ”stay the H out of my mailbox” is that they will get your current and valid email address. That may open a path to something else.

And even if 99.99% of people know not to reply to those, there is still the 0.01%. Send a million messages and you’ll get, what, a hundred replies. These posts are sent by ’bots or by some poor schmucks in a modern-day sweat shop.

Yes, they can sneak up on you in various ways. Yesterday I was researching the Camel, a WW1 British fighter and hit Continue and bells an whistles went off and that dreaded voice came on. I immediately signed off and ran my firewall program finding no problems.
