What a find! I would have never thought to try Easy Off in a hundred years, thinking that it would be too aggressive to use on plastic. Great work and a beautiful result.

Bob this is a superb cleaning project, congrats. The Cosmic Wind is my favorite Sterling model that I built in balsa for my TeeDee09...
This Testors CL is just as beautiful as my balsa plane.

Re: Cheapie Tyco control line Cosmic Wind knockoff meets Easy Off oven cleaner, goes from zero to hero
Thanks guys,
I was pretty amazed. I was looking under the kitchen sink for something to wash the first layer of dirt off with when I spied the oven cleaner. I had heard that it would remove paint, so I sprayed it on one side of the wing waited about a minute then using a scrunge pad (one of the photos) just wiped it off. I used a toothbrush on the ribbed areas. After I gained confidence in it, I reduced the wait time to about 30 seconds. It came off really easy.
In contrast, I have been applying non-silicone/non-synthetic standard old brake cleaner to this wing for three days straight. What a mess! I'm going to wash it off tomorrow and try the Easy-Off. I don't know if it will work as well on standard paint, but we will see.
Pipe bomb was locked up, but heat and oil loosened it. Looks like it was built for the cogged pull through plastic starter. Needle came out clean,
unlike this one on the Testors P-63 King Cobra.

Thanks Levent, easiest restore I have ever done. Less than 24 hours. Do you have an idea for a TYCO logo decal that I could put on the tail? I looked on the net and couldn't find anything suitable.
Cleaned up the rest of the old finishes speckles this morning and added a coat of Howard wax. 5/2 safety tip prop and "zip-starter" cogs on the drive shaft. Found a zip starter but will have to buy a whole plane to get it it. Can't find an individual.
I had bought a can of metallic paint to refinish it, but I'm leaving it yellow. Kinda like it.

I saw that one Charles, but I want something that identifies it as Tyco. Something like this.
I was going to buy that one, just to get to the starter rip cord, but the wing/tail surfaces are misshapen. so I went with this
Seller had BIN or make an offer. I made a low-ball offer that was accepted.
The one that you show has an extra Cox engine and tools.

A TYCO/Cheapie sticker would be so cool.

Thanks Charles, maybe Levent will see it and work his magic.
I really like the little guy. Probably the straightest plastic airplane that I have seen. Wing and tail sections on these love to warp and bend. This one must have been kept in a cool area.
It was missing the spinner, but I remembered that I have a bunch that came with this kit that duplicated the original very well. Painted one yellow.

Collections and deep meaning
Old guy collects, or tries to, every Cox RTF NEW unused
Lifetime collection of new and used Cox RTF some bought because the long ago Xmas/birthday present is a fond memory
Eclectic collection of a lot of stuff, many brands and eras. Several tediously and meticulously repaired from seemingly hopeless neglect and damage
CEF the wonderful place to find these wonders and stare in awe reliving recent or very distant memories
PRICELESS !

Do you want a TYCO emblem or Tyco RC?
l]
Hi Levent.
I got the Tyco R/C images. Three different sizes one will be perfect. But is it possible to change the R/C to C/L? If not, these will do.
Added the yellow painted spinner. I don't care for it, thinking I will repaint machinery gray to match the cowl and tail. Going to build a rack for it identical to this one that holds the white Testors Cosmic Wind.
Built a nose landing gear assembly for the Wen Mac DayFighter and cut a used Cox red spinner to fit and replace the silly red light thingy and found a replacement canopy making it about complete after years of sitting idle.
