That model (P-51B?) was same as mine back in late 1960's, except it was the US military version in olive drab plastic. It was the remains of a vandalized Cox model that was missing box, accessories, elevator and rear fuselage bottom. Offered in a tent sale for a store, I think I paid $2 US total for it. I made a squared fuselage bottom and elevator out of 1/16" balsa sheet, used crinoline cloth hinges to restore it. Still have the postage stamp engine that came with it.

1960's Cox .049 postage stamp engine with new spinner & prop drive plate, and GB EB-1 engine mount added.

Wasn't it someone here who posted how to make a retro look alike battery that came with the RTF's, with art for color printing onto card stock?
Or, is Cameron's concerns are simply obtaining a starter battery for engine run-up, and/or possibly flying? Generic starter battery systems are available from both https://coxengines.ca/field-gear/ and http://www.exmodelengines.com/home.php?cat=259

Make sure you have the appropriate fuel as well.
https://brodak.com/fuel/fuel-qt-15-nitro-11-5-castor-11-5-synthetic-1.html
This is just one that's available. There are other appropriate fuels as well. Make sure it has 15%-25% nitro as well as castor oil, making up at least 20% oil or so. You can just use a 1.5 vold "D" cell for starting.
