Re: More Cox Tee Dee 010 and Avenger
The final insult. Added a radio aerial, black thread from my Mothers sewing kit plus a couple of dots of CA.
I cut out wheel pants but decided not to use them. Remotely test the engine then put a stake in this thing.
Still, a glutton for punishment I'm starting on a larger example.
Oh yes, added the pilots name under the cockpit - Thomas Byron Frederick Avenger.
If you look close, he's trying to hide his face.

Don't know if it is acceptable for grown men to talk about 'toy' airplanes like this and say.... Does it ever look cute! But I really mean what an awesome job.

Very good job Bob!!… Looks like the rear gunner took out a few Zeros!!!…. Maybe that’s a future project for .010…. Would be cool side by side…

You mean build an equivalent scale Japanese Zero.............I hadn't thought of that, but I do like DPZM's Zero. I'm not good enough to eyeball it to scale
sooooooo.....Coming BIN. About the price of a stand alone Zero decal sheet. Lindberg's 1/48 scale are a little larger than Monograms. I can use the plastic pieces as a guide and maybe the canopy and of course the decals. Single turret machine gun on the Avenger, but it should do the job.
Also got a bid on this 1/4 scale.
See what you started.
Edit:
Decided to do the wheel covers after all. But I did them upside down, not liking the scale covers.

Nice!… Perfect subject!!…..1944 in the Pacific again!!!….Well, neat to contemplate history while doing projects like this…. Great idea for using the plastic model for research and parts… Zero was a top line performer at the beginning of the war….
I had a BIN urge today as well for this Golden Bee… Did not have one and just think they’re pretty…. I think it’s an older one by the tapered crankcase…. But not sure about the exhaust collector, I don’t think they came with them? I kind of like it though… Will find out more when it comes in…

Good one Robert, yes early model. Metal backplate with no screen on the intake, and the case screws are not buggered. Extra points.
The Golden Bee, my first "big" tank Cox engine. Powered some Hollow logs. Later a pair this creation I put together. It flew awful!
Later went in my current P-38.
Got the wild Idea that I wanted to start the .010. It's been 35 years since i last ran one. Remote garage, not bad + 55 degrees, Cox 25%. Don't know, maybe 2 1/2 turns? Finger held it would not start. If I mount it I will have to remove the cylinder and intake to get to the screw. Blew the fuel out with low volume compressed air, sprayed with Remoil. Flipped and wiped dry. A work in progress.
Found the correct .010 3 blade prop for it, but tried to start it with a 2 blade.

I finally received those Japanese Zero kits. !/48th (Lindberg) scale and 1/4" scale (Monogram) (1/4" equals one foot, works out to about a nine inch wing on the zero.) Both too small to reproduce in balsa. I will have to use the Testors "Fly-em" as a guide or find something on outerzone.
Funny, the decals that came with the smaller Monogram kit are larger than those with the larger Lindberg. Both kits cheap worth the price of the decals alone.
Edit:
This will work, outerzone. A .010 will fit in there just fine.

No, but looks interesting. Might have to sign up.
And Robert - "Watching." Yes, but I will probably over-cook it as usual.
Edit:
Finally found a way to get the Zero to dive on the Avenger. Watch your six George.....")
