Re: New build for the girls
Hi Mich,
The CG Wizard, was the go to plane, with the BabyBee guts from crashed Cox Pt19s...
Somehow, the cool LHS owner, was way ahead of us...
My 6yr old Godson was not interested in the plane I built for him.
Untill, I got him some paints, a brush, and made it his own...
Had lots of laughs flying after that.
My Godson,
Is almost 40 now.
Take care,
Have fun,
Dave

Girls ? Ok I see its a *Airfoil shaped wing according to Brodaks site , what do you think of that ? Looks good so far , it does appear in the pic that the airfoil is in the mid section of the wing . Have never seen one in person.

Re: New build for the girls
Im building this plane to get my daughters flying..Well I've never had one with an air foiled solid balsa wing, seems odd that its a flat bottom design.. Covering went on fast..dope is cranky though..next plane is going to get sprayed with Duplicolor and after that's cured I'll clear it with 2K..I'm sick of the brush..I used nitrate clear two coats and after sanding left it 24 hrs..the dope didn't want to behave last night, acted like trying to spread hot marshmallows with a fork on a greased pan..fish eyes galore SO FUN.

Should do the job , looks sturdy enough to that a few bounces off the ground . Good choice of the CG DYS motor mount . with the CG right will give them a better chance for success too , Good Fun !! Looks good !

Final touches..
Well one of the fields that we are gonna go fly at has a dirt ball diamond..and I do think too much also..
So I took a 1/8" thick piece of chainsaw airfilter and loosely covered the air inlet..Will see if it likes running with it..
Then after welding up the tank overflow on the bottom, the new aluminum backplate had a vent next to the needle..kids filling tank with syringe creates fountain when full..so I made a overflow tube setup. The original overflow worried me that a on hard landing it would be getting bent and clogged with dirt..overthink is a way of life.

I like it.
You and Yabby are builders in kind with your breakaway engine mounts.
Good job - Bob

Looks really good. Turned out very nice. I must say though, my breakaway rubber band engine mounts havent done much breaking away as everything around them seems to break instead. Bu they make engine on and off easy and changing engines between planes. Nice to see someone else giving them a try also.!

Re: New build for the girls
your airplane looks beautiful, you have thought of many details, great!
The rubbers that hold the engine, if there are many turns, are stronger than the screws themselves. the rubbers that you use there, wet them with castor oil and put the tension in such a way that they act as a fuse, otherwise they will be more rigid than the screws.
Remember that it is important that it acts as a shock absorber and not as a tensioner!
