Showcase of Reno Air Race Winners in November Air Classics Magazine
Bob and I have commented several times on our appreciation of Air Classics magazine, and they continue to impress, with really cool stuff every month.
The November issue showcased the winners of Reno's Unlimited Races since their beginning in 1964. From these, I gleaned a couple more images of my most favorite Mustang ever: The Red Baron RB-51.
I was a fan of this great airplane since discovering it (in Air Classics) way back in early 1976, and was literally crushed by its loss at Reno on September 16, 1979.
Like a lot of us like to say, "There WAS no internet back when I was a kid", so anything beyond magazine articles took a little work. In those lean, early years, money was tight, and I'd carefully review any magazines for good stuff before buying them---subscriptions were not an option. But I COULD write letters---and did---sometimes with great results.
One of these netted me an amazing response, and I became the proud owner of a photo and typed note with info on the RB-51...THAT was a big day!
It's pretty funny that I'd offer to contribute to the Red Baron Team, and that $5 might make a difference in racing it...but you do what you can do.
Anyway, sliding down memory lane once again, thanks to Air Classics magazine.

Ah Kim, ya beat me to it! I have been thinking about doing a piece on the November issue but you did a much better job at it than I ever could.
I have contacted Mr. O'Leary about various subjects, he is aware that I have given away at least five subscriptions to Air Classics here on the Forum, some as parts of contests that I have sponsored over the years others just for the fun of it. If I see something in his editorial page - "A message from the publisher" I will ring him up.
I enjoyed reading your Memo from Wings Publishing. I keep correspondence from notable people as well.
