"In for a Penny.. In for a Stuka" (came up when I searched "Penny" in the internal CEF search engine. That Cox Stuka thread of Dave's is cool.. and is almost 9 years old.)
This afternoon I got the craving for my favorite French Fried potatoes and a soda at the "Beef Barn". (N. Smithfield location) Their fries are the best that I know of.. and just down the road a bit.
so........... I notice when receiving my change for a $20 bill; that there was a wheat penny amongst the coinage.
![A 93 year old.. 1930_w10](https://i.servimg.com/u/f76/18/50/45/90/1930_w10.jpg)
so........... I know it's an older (solid copper) penny.. but didn't/couldn't read the year until I got home to view with a magnifier. I could've used my camera at the restaurant.. but didn't think of it. I did ask a waitress.. but she wasn't sure.. and thought it might be 190... something..
I'm not a coin-collector.. but I appreciate these little treasures that come my way every so often..

Re: A 93 year old..
My father had a extensive coin collection. He's very knowledgeable about pennies. I noticed that there's no mint marking on your penny. This means your coin was minted in Philadelphia. In addition, something that immediately grabs my attention is the date. This penny was from the depression. I don't think many coins were struck in that era. I know certain factors dictate value. In addition, Lincoln's impression is not higher than the rim of the coin. Coins can't stack if this was the situation. Therefore, wear takes place on the rim which impacts the center. Lincoln's bow tie usually becomes worn down quite rapidly. Your example though even though it shows wear is still distinguishable.

Re: A 93 year old..
Nice find. 157.4 million minted.
Just before Thanksgiving, I got an early 50s wheat penny in my change at a gas station. I spotted it right away. That was the first time in a long time that I got one in change.
Some years back, I bought several of those coin books and started to fill them with coins found in change. All of these were pulled from circulation, with the exception of the 1943 steel cent, which I had floating around here for decades. I did pull the 1943-D steel cent out of a coin roll from the bank.

A lot of holes that may or may not get filled. I haven't stuck one in it in years. Pretty safe to say a 1909-S VDB won't be going in it if ever found.

In the 1930's/40's my father owned the only "Super Market" in town and he did his own accounting. In an era before credit cards a lot of cash passed through his hands. Dad was not a "collector" but he did save coins, silver dollars and dimes mostly. Later he organized them and put some in albums. I remember the dimes, every so often I would take one or two and go in town and buy a couple of candy bars. If he noticed he never said anything.

When he passed he left the majority of his extensive collection to my oldest daughter, a coil collector in part. I have the left-overs. Mostly silver dollars and dimes but pennies too. Indian heads, Flying Eagles, Lincoln heads and these that I do not recognize marked One Cent 1855.

Me...I hate change and for years just tossed them in a drawer. Now with the advent of self checkout machines (Walmart) I always have and still do pay cash. But now I just drop change in the slot, pennies mostly getting rid of them. Making progress but still a long way to go beforee I burn the whole stack.

Thanks Jacob, it's pretty well defined but the value to me is that my father at one time handled them and carefully placed them in albums. All are set pretty much straight. Dad was a great guy and probably saved my life a time or two.
Now I have to check the dime albums to see how many empty places there are that I might be responsible for.

Re: A 93 year old..
You guys are the BEST!
Thanks for taking an interest!!! My dad would come into this world 4 years later.. my mom 9. I haven't searched.. but I'd save those two pennies if I happen to find them.
Odds are.. I'd find them if I looked through my stash.
![A 93 year old.. Coinag11](https://i.servimg.com/u/f76/18/50/45/90/coinag11.jpg)
and here's my "Silver coinage" bag..
![A 93 year old.. Coinag10](https://i.servimg.com/u/f76/18/50/45/90/coinag10.jpg)
If I check my coat pockets.. I'll probably come up with enough to hit the $60 mark..
but I have to admit; I like having a little change in my pocket going jing-a-ling-a-ling..
