Re: Glider question
the old days of a Cox .049 on a power pod on the wing of a Gentle Lady?
pretty much gone. too much work, to easy to destroy.
for absolute ease of use, fun flight time, no hassles?
the E-Flight Radian
the Amazon listing is for plane only, you still need a transmitter and batteries
https://www.amazon.com/flite-Airplane-Transmitter-Included-EFLU2950/dp/B09BZ3G7RK
you said glider, and this is by far the easiest way to get in the air, turn off the throttle, and glide for hours.
then, when he is comfortable flying again? slope planes, 2m, discus launch, all sorts of stuff available
Caveat: I no longer fly RC, I'm a Free Flight or Control line feller. but a dear pal of mine has a radian, swears by it, not at it, and let me fly it last visit to the CO ranch. SUPER easy to fly. Lots of fun.

Re: Glider question
If he wants to do gas power and has a PeeWee .020 the Ace R/C Guppy makes a fine little glider… Plans are in OZ and not hard to scratch build …. A toy glider wing makes an OK substitute for the original Ace foam wing…. The PeeWee will take it up to spec height on the 90 sec tank run…. Originally for single channel, I added an elevator to mine….
