Joe Wagners Sioux
I thought I had my old kit plan but could not find it. So, I downloaded the plan from outer zone .UK on to a Thum drive. Had a local print shop do it up. I made copies of the print wood needed for the fuselage and tail. Went to a local Craft and Hobby store and bought some lumber. I also pick up some Elmers Craft Bond to make sticky paper. Parts were cut out and then the paper was removed. Difficult paper and excess glue can be removed with dope thinner. I am planning to use an OK CUB A. I can also use a COX reed valve engine with normal tank mount.

Re: Joe Wagners Sioux
Nice plane and construction from start to finish. OK Cub engine with a spring starter. A Cox add-on?

That Sioux is looking mighty fine, @bsadonkill , good reflection on a timeless classic F/F design. The period correct OK Cub .049 looks good on it, too.

Re: Joe Wagners Sioux
I was going to blow the cobwebs off of mine tomorrow. I've had very good success with the Sioux. However, it's one of those planes that when it gets to altitude, it stays there. I've had mine glide for over a mile when the power cut. My Cox .049 originally was using a diesel head in this and that sent it practically to the moon. I though I lost it for certain, that engine didn't want to quit even on the eyedropper. I was using the 7x3 with the diesel and I've retained it still while using glow. On 10% nitro, I know exactly when it's going to quit. A really nice design, it was also very enjoyable to build.

Gee whiz! I had forgotten about the Sioux, I could have sworn that it was a Veco kit. First free flight I ever built in the late 50's, an OK Cub .049 and a 1/4 oz tank, what did I know, or not know at 14 years. Painted white to see it all the better, right! Beautiful flight, until it went out of sight. Lost my Cub engine and plane as well, white was not the color to try and chase on a bicycle. Ah! the rites of being a teen ager. It would take me many years to learn what I thought I knew at 14.

Re: Joe Wagners Sioux
I lost my Dakota with a very nice early OK Cub .049. When Charles Brebeck of OK engines was certain he was going to retire, I told him what happened to my Dakota. I purchased some parts due to having no availability in the future. Knowing that there's now NO parts availability, I should've purchased many parts. Almost a month later and his website removed, a new OK .049 was at my door. It really made me feel like a kid again seeing that. For years I passed on hundreds of these engines. When I discovered their use for freeflight, I've been hooked ever since. They're really a fun little engine when you get a good one.

Re: Joe Wagners Sioux
Went out yesterday and this morning flying the Sioux. It flies the way it is expected to, circles to the left under power. It circles to the right on the glide. I have the trim tab set at about 45 degrees. It circles to the left at around 150ft diameter circle. The glide downs a little bit tighter and fairly fast. The model came out a little nose heavy, so I left it that way to start with. The climb is somewhat slow but does pick up when it gets turned into the wind. I would post pictures but I'm having problems trying to get them off desktop. Well their they are. The second picture is a hand launch. The last one is a glide in.

Any scratch builder that undertakes powered freeflight has my admiration. Good looking plane - congrats on the flight.
