I'm always tinkering with motors, not always Cox engines though. Here's a Webra 1.5ccm (.09) that I bought used. It has a stretched rod that I will be trying my hand at making since Webra closed it's doors two years ago. Cox and Webra engines I am a fanatic about. This is the second one of this engine I rebuilt and are headed to a Dumas Windy airboat.

What is on your bench right now? Dscf2011

Here it is before the restoration which involved paint stripper and various 3M pads, kitchen pan copper cleanser (does nice on aluminum too), toothbrushes, brass and stainless wire detail brushes, q-tips and metal polishes.

What is on your bench right now? Dscf2012

Here's how the first one turned out. I discovered by accident if you boil the crankcase castings of Webra engines, there is a reaction which gives it a magnesium brown color which I like.

What is on your bench right now? Dscf1810

It is a plain bearing engine and hopefully it will sing for me, I haven't tested it yet. When I took pictures of this first one I forgot to include its stock muffler. Rolling Eyes

Nice engine I really like tiny diesels.
I have a DiVa 0.098cc 0.006cuin.
An AH .1cc 0.006cuin
An AE .1cc 0.006cuin
Clan 0.24cc 0.015cuin
And a Blitz 0.05cc 0.00059cuin
I can't upload picks now because im on my phone but I will try later.

Yes...VERY COOL. It's great fun to see neglected engines (Cox and others) brought back to life...and then, put to work !

Nitro I am anxious to see your motors. Are these low production run motors? It is all new to me what these engines are like I have never ran across them before, maybe a Co2 type...Brown I think was the name. They do sound small! I have always liked the "miniature" in miniatures such as my 1/43 scale car kits.

Kim thats one thing I think this engine is going to do is "work" on the airboat. Those things are almost like bench running them because of the constant power needed to lug them around. Not anything like a plane where it can unload and coast to high rpm's

well, there's nothing on it right. now...but i'll order my plane some time around the week-end, so it'll
be occupied pretty soon. sadly, i have to leave my silver widow at my relatives in the US, becaause shipping it here
would cost 45$+. and that ain't worth it.

What is on your bench right now? Empty Traumatized Babe Bee

Post  Kim Wed Sep 14, 2011 11:08 am

Got me a nice, filthy, neglected, rescue Babe Bee that's logged a lot of time in the back of some garage. A little cleaning, a little polishing, some new gaskets all around, and she'll shine like a new dime, AND sing with the best of them !

Yep, I used a rebuilt one about that old to break in my new SPI cylinder/piston before putting it on my Stuntman's engine. Yours has a nice fat cylinder on it too, nothing like a great spare Bee in the box.

I'm making some progress on my Li'l Satan. Having to make many more parts than I expected. That's good for your skill set. Kit building for years lulled me into a false sense of accomplishment. I'll take the camera to the shop tonight.

Yo Rusty,

Good deal on the Lil Satan...yep, cutting out your own parts really cranks up the prework to building these little suckers!

I'm pretty sure that my neglected Rescue Bee started out as the engine from an old-school PT-19. It was attached to the type of firewall used back when the PT's came with a complete Bee.

Anyway...she shall sing again !

I want to put a Bee in my PT-19. I have a Black Widow that would fly nicely in it. I'll make a mount out of ply, but could you post a picture of yours?

Hey Rusty,

Here are the photos...but if you'd want to get me a post mailing address, I'll just stick it in an envelope and send it to you. All of my PT's have engine mounts, and this one would just lay in my junk box forever.

It DOES have a lot of little stress crack around the mounting holes, but they had a good grip on the little engine, and it might work just fine...guess I WOULD make some copies though, in case it tuned to goo the first time fuel hit it!

Yeah, after all these years, I just noticed that when I took the photos! Guess it was just a little more effort to keep the lines tight by putting a bit more mass outside the thrust line! I'll try to get it out quick...even have the original little phillips screws...not in bad shape. The ones on my original PT got wallowed out real fast !

Nothing on my bench at the moment, but I just recently finished this Piper J3 Cub Sport semi scale Free Flight model designed for a .049 glow or Mills .75cc diesel. The design is by Noel Shennan - Australian designer.

I have in fact made this one outrunner electric powered with 3 channel RC just for something different.

Building a Li'l Satan from a 20 year old kit that had been raided for balsa. I finally decided to build the plane, but I'm having to make a lot of the parts. Other parts, I'm remaking because the old wood seems weak. My link to the build thread is on my profile page at rcgroups.com.

I have the final piece of my Webra marine engines I plan on using for a lineup of powerboats. It is the largest they had offered, being a .91 size engine (15cc) A 1/8th scale racing unlimited hydroplane is in its future.

This is what I have been doing as I sneak around behind the scenes here at CEC restoring non-Cox motors for my boatworks.

I am at the point in this picture I took tonight of trying to remove the wrist pin through a side hole in the crankcase. It is stuck and I fear it is a burr left behind when I removed the E-clip holding it in.

I have to stop for a longer screw at the hardware tomorrow to install into the wrist pin to pull it out of the piston. Nothing long enough here tonight.

What is on your bench right now? Dscf2110

I have most of the parts back ready to go. This was a slightly used engine that was never properly put away a long time ago. It has bad rear bearing due to a spot of old oil and rust. I have most of it cleaned up now except for re-dressing the carburetor and removing the wrist pin but it's being a pain.

This is how it looked before I took it apart. Lots of scrubbing and polishing so far.

What is on your bench right now? Steamengine001-1
Well, not exactly a cox engine but it is on the workbench as I just finished it up. That's a 1976 Mamod Minor 2 steamer fired by Sterno fuel, with a Wilesco dynamo lighting a up a streetlamp when it runs. Stained a piece of birch craft plywood and twisted rope trim with some minwax red mahogany and then mounted up both pieces. My grade school/high school buddy's engine. He was killed right after we graduated in 85 and the engine was given to me at the funeral. Finally got the pieces and the nerve to clean it up and make it live again..

Engine base and fire box was coated in VHT ceramic header paint, then 4 step oven cured. Brass pieces were polished with Heavy Metal polish.
