Weighted lines

Weighted lines
Recently a CL term has come up and I no idea what it means.
Weighted lines........ As in a weighted lines version of a model. Anybody know what that means?

Re: Weighted lines
That's a new one on me. It must have some cryptic meaning other than... weighted lines.

Re: Weighted lines
Might be that the use of GSUMP fiber, which is much lighter than steel, has forced slight re-design of some models for trimming purposes. "weighted lines" might refer to steel!
Honestly I don't know.

Re: Weighted lines
Hmmmmm, well at least I am not the only one struggling.
The steel lines sound like a good theory Phil.

Re: Weighted lines
I certainly never heard of that term used in describing lines of any type. In regards to using synthetic lines to planes that traditionally fly using steel lines, about the only difference I've noted is that the plane can reduce the tip weight slightly. Some planes can benefit from the slight reduction (combat foamies) but aside from that, I don't see a tremendous benefit in the flying ability of my wood framed models. I've taken a 1/4oz of weight out of the tips of my foamies when I switched to Pro Braid. The real benefit for me was the longevity of the lines due to mid airs and line entanglements. I'm not comprehending what the terminology of "weighted lines" stands for. Ken

Re: Weighted lines
Well, if we talk fishing...
I use weight forward fly line. It has a coating that both is flotation, and added mass to the end several feet of line, there is a near weightless tapered monofilament tippet the hook it attached to. The core of the line is Dacron.
For "flat line" trolling I have used lead core braided Dacron. Quite literally heavy line, something like 4 oz per 100 ft. A leader of lead core is convenient, and I used this when fishing from a canoe regularly a few years ago.
But we are talking airplanes, not fishing...

Re: Weighted lines
I'm a fisherman from way back. Salt water surf fishing and Flounder trolling is my main thing, but I used to fly fish before my 10' Shakespeare rod and reel was stolen about 30 years ago. For control line flying "weighted line" that has a positive useful function is puzzling. If you are a combat pilot, it's something you might want to give your opponent as a friendly gift.
