Re: 010 tether car
Just thinking out loud.....
Most of my cars these days have a spare that's mounted with a very long threaded shaft.
Perhaps bolt it through the wheel and mount your bearing to the other end of the shaft
with cord/wire (whatever) to the bearing.
I doubt the average wheel would be moved by a little car and if worried. one could always
go to a breakers yard and get a BEEEEEG wheel+tyre for a few shekels,

Cross drilled and vented? It won't help your tether car go any faster Or stop sooner
Just kidding....I couldn't help myself.

Re: 010 tether car
Dont get me thinking it hurts. I,ve never considered a tether car or ever seen one. The only slot cars I ever owned were scalextric. Seeing those pics has got me thinking. Three planes to complete first though.

Re: 010 tether car
So you have a disc and some cable woohoo nearly time to
Let her rip eh ado starting to get excited about running your car it's gonna fly (well hopefully not ) but u see what I'm getting at
Go on ebeneezer get building a tether the more the merrier lets get loads of them running and start some kind of speed /lap race going all over the world have to agree on a line length though
What length were u thinking ado ???

Re: 010 tether car
i was planning to start with 3.182m from pivot to centerline of car.
that gives 20m/lap
5lap = 100m
50 = 1Km
makes speed calculations easy.
if it looks like it is all getting too fast letting it out to 3.97m
25m/lap
4lap/100m
the shorter line should be ok,
and also makes it easier to find a smooth piece of concrete/tarmac/asphalt

Re: 010 tether car
Either sound good to me like the way you have done the radius so as to easily calculate circumference therefore speed nice touch that can't wait to find out how it goes and also how the friction on the gears holds up should be perfect me thinks as slotty motors go from 15k all the way up to about 25k last time I looked so don't honk you will have any trouble there like the way you can tune the gearing to useful Rpm's that's what mine is sadly lacking but the next one is gonna be along the same lines as yours I think all good fun everyone at work ( mechanics ) said it couldn't be done on such a small scale when I first started this project have proved them wrong now hahahahaha never underestimate a persistent modeller

Re: 010 tether car
finally got around to making the tether.
front disc off 2012 ford falcon gt.
machined a bearing housing and arm(adjustable for height)
made the tether line from SIG braided steel control line wire
length 3.18m center to between chassis rails, giving 20M/lap
went for first test this morning before it got too hot.
need to do some repairs and mods.
stripped crown wheel, lost grub screw from pinion.
chewed cable(twice) it want to backflip on takeoff, when tuned close to ideal.
onboard igniter broke loose, meaning i had to hand launch with engine running(no push start), causing some of the above problems.
so....
only got a 2 very short vids(need an assistant) of when it was running rich, and when it stripped the crown wheel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS8ZX9YAKlA&feature=youtu.be
~1.4sec/lap=50kph
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOsAUA2zd6g&feature=youtu.be
and you can actually hear the crunch as the crwown wheel strips... about 0.03 sec
cheers

I like the rubber stripes it leaves on the pavement. At least you got it out there. My cameraman is a tripod.
