Video of my K&B torpedo .049
Well Here's something different, this time the engine attached to my run bench is an old K&B Torpedo .049. This is another one of the engines that was in that goodie box I got several days ago. It was gum stuck but nothing that a little heat couldn't take care of in fact it came apart pretty easily and from initial inspection, it was fairly clean in the inside given the amount of running it had (He said that he ran this engine a lot back in the day). Compression is not great but good still has pop too it either way it started pretty easily I may try putting this engine in an light period correct model. enough of my rambling, enjoy a piece of modeling history coming back to life. I don't have a Torp .049 but have a Torp Jr .035 (very similar) except that it has a glow button type insert rather than a plug. I found that it had exactly the same problem as the bandit's in that it needed the battery attached for quite a while before it would sustain a run. It too was really sensitive on the needle setting.

I have a couple of Torpedos, a 35 and a 20something. And a new crankcase too. I have yet to run them. The 35 is for the old Green Box Nobler I have to semi-rebuild.

Heres my Greenhead Torpedo ..... love this engine. Runs absolutely fabulous. Had it in a Flight Streak when I first got my 2.4Ghz radio and messing with throttle controlled C/L.
Took it off tho .... its really loud ..... but its still a top favorite! Go Torpedo!!!!!

Very very good .... it ran and flew great! I had asked that question @ SH if there were any reasons not to .... everyone said, by all means go for it. It was a great setup in order to keep that nice original NV pointing up .... and my holder free from getting slimmed in the face by keeping the exhaust down.
It's got a Thunder Tiger GP25 on there now .... its one strong little engine.
That plane really doesn't look like that anymore ... it's pretty bashed up and held together with all kinds of different tapes. Alot of the damage happened when I was teaching myself how to hover/'slob it. Once I get into a nice groove and have the wind just right .... I can stand in one spot for 5 minutes just holding it steady.
Fun ... fun!
You might see it in ControlLine World .... Joe Just has a bunch of pictures and a small write up that he might use in Getting Back To Fun in Control Line. No promises tho .... I just wish the plane looked better .... its pretty harsh .....

Sig champion 25% added a little castor to it just to be sure. seemed to like it. Also found that the little torpedo likes the OS #8 plug ran a lot steadier and the NV wasn't quite as sensitive. (Bandit)akjgardner wrote:Nice lil engine Bandit. what fuel mix did u use in it?
