Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Thank you Eric, I am using a AR 400 RX / note there is a new version out AR 410 has new features.
I have finished covering the plane, also set up the throttle and elevator servo throws / trims.
Down to setting up the wing servos and putting a name on the wing and race number, will go
with neon yellow it really pops off the carbon pattern.
Weight came out to 8.2oz, the pipe / manifold / extra servo took away a chance at 7oz.
Near matching weight to the NANO III.
The snug fit of the wing servos should only need a patch of black or clear tape to keep them in
place / easy to change out if I have one go bad. Surface throws for the maiden will be kept at
35% / CG came out good / bit nose heavy when fueled up.
This was a fast build for me from Dec 29 to the 6th / the holiday free time helped.

Need to name this one the last version TD 05 RC was the NANO III.
This one has the X factor with the tuned pipe and the fact that it a honed down version from what was
learned with the N-III version. So will call it Nano X this size lettering and numbering maxes out as much
neon yellow as possible without going out of bounds, here is the rendering:

Ok this turned out to be a great visual aid for quite a good distance away.
I tried a new trick wet the paper put it over the neon shrink film after the backing was removed then cut most
of it out with scissors. Only needed the razor blade for the (a and the o) took about 35 mins. from start to finish.
Sure makes it a sexy beast with some shizzle...

Speaking of nano speed planes, here's a slick looking design just posted on Outerzone, that reminds me of the various nano planes posted in this forum. A 36 in. span Coupe d'Hiver that is rubber powered, won the 1970 King Orange Internats and the Nats two years later. It is very streamlined, seems a bit ahead of its time.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Thank you gents
Should do 140+ down wind passes in front of the camera with a carbon 4x4.5 pitch prop.
The real testing will be trying modified props such as a 4x5 / 152 mph pitch speed is possible.
Really just hope for a good solid running / flying trimmed up plane on the maiden first day
fights. Hope to get some up close passes for some good still shot pics.
I have a AR410 in the mail will use that as the servo plugs orintation
don't stick up will allow me to adjust the CG better scooting the RX
back further in the fuselage. Also have a lighter 220mah LiFe cell I
will use to fly with in the mail as well. Soon as that gear come in
will head out to the flying field with it. Will at least be able to fire up
the engine this weekend and check the servo movement under engine
vibration to insure no issues there and setup the idle / will post the
pre maiden engine test to also check rpm one last time as things
can change from bench to plane / fuel tank configurations.

That's sweet Brad. Really cool. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you get. Especially with that header and crankcase pressure setup. If you don't mind me asking, are you using a check valve or straight crankcase pressure?

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Thank you Dave!
Here is the first bench test, from there built the plane now ready to do a pre flight run up
set the NV and throttle throws for good low idle and see what the inboard fuel tank gives
me run time wise. Don't want to have to fuss with this on the maiden flight day out in the
field. Straight pressure to the tank no check valve. You do not want high pressure when
the engine is at idle with this air bleed carb. Using a KK backplate pressure tap.
Also set up the servos on the wing tonight need the AR 410 to come in the mail next.

Nice , i presume you are going to us the RX without the case ? I am about to order one of those and some servos , i am looking at these Hitec one but don't know if they are compatible https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0004p?&I=HRCM3402 I have seen were you can get a wire adatptor to make futaba servos work , i have a few s148 would be for another plane that don't need micros .

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
First bench test with the plane / engine combo.
I had the engine held back with a full size crescent wrench .9 lbs via rubber band around the rear
stabs and the hole in the wrench handle. Engine thrust managed to drag that and the plane forward.
Typically the wrench has always been heavy enough to hold back the other TEE Dee .049's. NV was
left a bit rich to make sure there is plenty of fuel flow when the engine unloads, idle was good to go.

Per prop thrust calc:
4 x 4.5 Static Peak 26,086 rpm / 111 mph pitch speed
.147hp / 110w / 7.8oz thrust

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
Finished my Nano X with some matching neon yellow silicon tube for the stinger
mount and header coupler, to top it off went with matching neon fuel line.
CG is spot on empty weight but without test flying it spot on is tentative on how much
lift the horizontal stabs provides and the wing incidence. You never know for sure
what you will get. In my case I have been tweaking the flying surfaces size and
orientation based on previous Nano planes.

Deadly weapon! Imagine a ducted fan version of this with embedded razors in all of the leading edges of all surfaces. Send it up to chop other models out of the sky.

Re: Cox .01 /.02 /.05 /.09 /.15 Speed Planes
A CL guy discarded the RC carb to a GM .030 and used a CL venturi he sold me the
carb never used mint. I bored out one of Matt's aluminum carb bodies with a 4.2mm
drill bit and press fitted the RC carb into body. The odd 4.2M bit can be found this
one was sourced on ebay. The fit is so tight no need to drill for a keeper bolt. I did
buy a 1.6mm threaded bolt for it just in case. The other one I did like this with the
GM RC .03 carb had the stem threaded it worked fine but requires shims to line
up the carb when tightened. Beautiful micro RC engine is born.

Beautiful combo Brad..good thing that the mating carb parts are all aluminum and the fit will remain tight even when the engine is hot..excellent heat conductance of aluminum keeps the carb body and the carb stem at near the same temperature. I wish that carby were made in future by CEF mate gkamysz in Chicagoland
