Well, with some help, including some people here I was finally able to finish this car.
The story goes, that as a kid I always loved the Chaparral cars and I wanted one of these but couldn't afford it.
Forward 25 years and I started collecting parts from yard sales and antique stores. Even with this, it took awhile to collect all the pieces that I needed, this project was on and off again for the next 30 plus years until I just finished it days ago.
The thing that makes this unique is the articulating wing that moves under braking like the real thing.

so enjoy...

Marvelous. 30 years, aged to perfection.

Yes, as Ron asked are you going to run it?

What makes this car rare is the fact it was outlawed due to the fact it used a underbody venturi system. This system created a vacuum under the car. Well guess what, this blew all the track debris out the rear onto the cars following behind.  Apparent as the back end of the car had huge exhaust screens. Cutting edge stuff at the time!!!  Can somebody say, worlds fastest Hoover ,Mark

I've run it a few times doing motor tests and what not, it will see the track but not in any real competition.

Do you have any pictures of the under carriage? What scale is it? What type frame?
When I was in Japan in the USAF I was in a slot car club of base people and we would have competitions of different types each week. Speed, con cours de elegance, scale, etc. I used a plastic 1/24 scale kit of the Chapparal 2E (?), it was almost 55 years ago. I used what I could from the kit and it turned out great. Sold it to another club member, just the body.

this one has the nylon type body with the ISO fulcrum chassis, you may have had the plastic body with the aluminum sidewinder chassis

Looks very familiar. Yes, I did use a plastic body, from a stand alone kit. I had to make my own interior as I remember. I made a 1 seater with fire extinguisher next to the driver. And I used the same frame you used. But with a fixed wing. After the concours de elegance we hade a stock car race, so I cut the frame and added length to match the plastic stock car and added weights to keep the body on the track.
Those were the days. When I got out of the service the whole scene had changed in San Diego, so I packed the stuff away for almost 30 years, then in 2000 I started selling the pieces off to ebay people, mostly in Texas and the Oregon-Washington area. I still have the 1/32 version of the La Cucaracha and the last welding rod frame I was working on at the time. Almost finished.
took some pics.

mini cucaracha used only the moving part of the ISO fulcrum chassis.

I should get out some stuff. I have a pretty complete La Cucaracha as I remember. The track where I was racing at the time was going to start an old school rail chassis class and a local guy was making a solder together kit for building a rail chassis. I bought the kit and started building the chassis but they couldn't get enough interest to ever start the races. Not enough people with finished cars. We mainly raced Flexies with the JK-11 and other stainless chassis and the Falcon motors. This was a really fun and completive class. The hill climb track was a blast to drive. We started a wing car class with wire and some EDM chassis but just Falcon motors so not insanely fast but still way faster than a Flexy. we ran those on the punch bowl track, real swoopy and except for some tight flatter turns in the middle it was pretty easy to drive. I berried everybody in the first race as I was the only one with wing car driving experience from my San Diego days. I just didn't crash or run into crashed cars and kept circulating. They learned pretty quickly though. To finish 1st you must first finish.

My second slot car in the 60's was a Cox Chaparral hard body one with the big 36D sidewinder and magnesium chassis and drop arm. It's gone now. Magnesium parts don't last. I still have a couple of axles and those cool little aluminum nuts though. And I have 36D motors, not sure if I have a Cox badged one though.
