Re: Tach Race 2017 class photo!
Thanks to Ron, Kim and Mark. This was my second CEF contest that I've entered since becoming a member here.. and it was very enjoyable. I hope that we have more contests like this. The 1st CEF Speed-Contest was the first model-airplane contest that I've ever entered. I'd like to see the Speed-Contest continued into 2017. There's plenty of time looking forward. The Tach-race seems to be the perfect pre-cursor for a hot-rod engine to run in a sleek scaled-down model. I hope that the CEF Speed-Contest will continue. I think that all of us who entered models in the first contest, learned a lot.. of what is required to build a model for it.

I would like to do a proto-speed event. Using TD's

Hi Ron, my goods came yesterday. It was fun for me, I guess I don't get out much anymore. My Wife and Me talk about bowel movements more than sex anymore.
My ugly old Mouse with Surestart cyl finally did OK, can you remember any details about my engine? Was it hard to start, steady run, over compressed?
Big thank you to EX engines from the very nice prize!! I'm going to his store and spend some $ just to say thanks!!

Re: Tach Race 2017 class photo!
My engines and prize arrived today. Thanks to Bernie for a really nice first prize and to Kim for a super class picture. And thanks especially to you Ron for running a great contest. Based on my other doings, I can appreciate it when someone steps forward to create an event that otherwise would not have occurred. Job well done.
Now I can work on my unlimited for next year. I never really got it running right. I had a few ideas to try, but wanted to get consistent runs before I tried more mods. Sorry to have given you a mis-behaving engine.

I was admiring and fiddling with the little Ring yesterday and broke the wire out of the elevator horn hole. It was probably about to let go anyway I'll put a plastic one on it when I fix it.

Re: Tach Race 2017 class photo!
I got my package back, safe and sound. Thanks so much again.. to Ron, our sponsors and all the contestants! I had enclosed a small bubble-pack envelope with return-postage affixed.. to cover the weight of what I'd sent. Well... crammed into that mailer.. along with extra postage was this..
I literally felt like a kid on Christmas morning, when I open the parcel and saw what was inside! Ron did a great job of stuffing everything that Bernie had sent with the Wasp; into my return bubble-mailer. Two very nice wrenches, a rebuild-kit, a spare plug, instructions, "Cox-Powered" stickers.. even the little cardboard "box" that it came in; Ron had unfolded.. and stuffed in there.
I'm very psyched to now have an engine equipped with this type of head that uses insert-plugs. Bernie's included instruction-sheet on running/breaking-in the engine, is well written.. and easy to understand. Thanks Bernie/Cox International!

Re: Tach Race 2017 class photo!
Well finally got off my dead ass.... (WX here is terrible) and got my mail
Ron, the package arrived and I truly want to thank you for CDing this event
I seem to recall way back when I was experimenting the High Zoot crank shafts, some one questioning the bench RPMs I was getting...(near/over 25K on bladder)
I am truly amazed you got my TeeDee to even run on gravity much less grenade the crank.....grin
I guess now I have to re read the whole thread to find who donated the cool new TeeDee I won--- and thank him
BTW my other entry...dead last..... was a pristine parts built Cox international engine that had never seen fuel... Thanks for the initial break in I think I will keep sending it and see, over time, how it gets better
I had a cheater thought of soaking it in pure nitro for a month before shipping... grin
Final thought for our CEF over seas friends:
I will personally pay the two way shipping for any CEF non CONUS member who wants to participate in 2018 Tach race

X2 - By the way in some circles West Virginia is considered a third world country.
But as mentioned before, you fellows had way too much fun with this. Getting something ready for next year.

Well Fred, you got my attention.
Shipping wasn't my only reason for not entering an Aussie Bee this time, but with such a generous offer I would certainly take the prospect very seriously next time. I wouldn't take up 100% of the offer (one way only) and I guess you could find that there is a sudden rush of overseas interest and you might live to regret the offer.
Life has its twists and turns so who knows what'll be going on in our lives in a year's time. I just didn't have the head-space this year to prepare & deal with the race and would have just sent my last-year's winner anyway, which I don't think would be completely fair as it turned out to be an absolute freak.
A few months ago I posed the question about another race. It took a bit to gain some momentum but once Ron put his hand up the ball really started rolling. Thanks to everyone for keeping this event alive.
Rod.

Re: Tach Race 2017 class photo!
Doug everyone was over compressed, not anyone's fault just the conditions we were in. Your engine did do a prop wobble, but once lit off it ran very smooth and was easy to needle.
The only engines that were a breeze were the stock ones. The worst engines to start were the clamp style heads. They would not start worth a darn and none of them had starter springs!
The very worst was Fred's Wasp style I broke down and put a starter spring on it after trying for 30 mins. The spring allowed it to pass compression stroke a couple times. After the run and once cool, I pulled the head to find only one head gasket.... Fred remind me to kick you in the shin when we meet.
