Re: FOX FAI .049 Engines
Last time I had any dealings with Bob was about a year ago. He actually instructed me what to do on a particular head I was having issues with. If he's not actively doing repair work, I would've thought to see it on another forum I frequent. Ken

Re: FOX FAI .049 Engines
I have an .07 that needs a backplate, I had no idea the .049 shared the same case. I also need a crank for an .049 that Larry Renger gave me.
This should be fun! I can finally use these now.

Re: FOX FAI .049 Engines
Fox 049 glow heads now in stock - progress continues on the other parts. We are aiming to have complete engines come Spring with pricing for the 049 FAI in the $65 - $75 range.

Ken
I was glad to find the web address of Bob Matte written in your post.
I read on his website he also modifies COX TD09 glow heads to accommodate Nelson glow plugs. Do you now if Bob Matte is still active i.e. undertakes the said TD09 head modifications? (Just asking because he wrote on the page he had retired some 20 years ago so may be in his 80-s?…)
I sent him an email but so far have not heard from him. In which US state does he reside?
Thank you for the answer, Andras[/quote]
I finally contacted Bob and sent him a burnt 09 head that he modified for me for Nelson plug application. Beautiful job Bob, thanks again for the professional conversion and smooth business.
Come Spring and I will test fly my Sig Wonder powered by an RC TD09 now with the Nelson hot plug that I expect will allow a low idle:

Andras, I would think you might get a possible rpm gain as well. That's good to know that he does this service. I own 2 TD .09's and I only have a limited amount of plugs. Ken

Re: FOX FAI .049 Engines
Yes Ken certainly the Nelson plug will help keep the compression ratio higher than normal plugs that allow compressed gases fill the space around the thread. Do you think even the rpm with regular COX head will be surpassed?

I only see .049 glow heads on the site and prop driers that are sold out. Is there more items or was that all?

Glow heads were recently finished and are currently the only available item. The prop drivers should be available this weekend or early next (just need to take pictures). Cylinder/Piston for FAI are in the final stages of machining and then the pistons will need assembly with connecting rod.

Primarily the .049 FAI since this is what we have parts for (not much for standard 049). While some are interchangeable (glow head, piston, tank, gaskets, etc.) the majority are not. The goal will be to build as many of the FAI .049 as is available with the remaining inventory we purchased. Below is a rough list of what will be available.
FAI
Complete Engines with Fuel Tank Assembly (Targeting $65 - $75 Retail at this time)
Glow Heads (will also manufacture a glow head adapter at some point)
Cylinder/Piston (limited to excess of build-able engines)
Crankshaft
Spinner Nut
Driveplate
Gaskets (Glow Head / Tank to crankcase)
Screws
Regular 049
Glow Heads (will also manufacture a glow head adapter at some point)
Cylinder/Piston (have a couple hundred standard cylinders, but no ETA of finishing them at this point. Have a handful that are complete.)
Driveplate
Gaskets (Glow Head / Tank to crankcase)
Screws

Re: FOX FAI .049 Engines
Wanted to provide an update on the progress of this project. After many issues with the assembly and completion of unfinished parts we are currently assembling pistons and connecting rods and are aiming for final assembly soon. Spare parts will be available for sale where they are in excess of build-able engines.
Parts should start to be available in the coming week with final, assembled engines ready for sale in mid-January.

Yes, I ran a couple before the remaining parts were purchased and they ran well. I would suggest the MAN article for a thorough review (about halfway down page one of this thread).
