I hate to see this thread wrap-up.
Thanks for letting me share your experiences.

Bob, Kim stayed pretty busy with his camera when he wasn't wrenching or flying. I'm pretty sure he will be along with some epic pics and vids. It was honestly one of the best weekends of model flying I've ever had!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Changed the title, as I'm sure this thread will be receiving photo and video updates...probably overlapping the Fall S.M.A.L.L. in October!
Gonna pick up an additional 2TB external drive just to back up this and other 2019 events.
Greatly Appreciate the Appreciation Guys!
And agree with Troy...this was one of the best S.M.A.L.L.'s!

What a weekend! I really appreciate the pics, Kim. I've been too lazy to bring decent cameras the last couple of years. Did you happen to get any motion shots of the Big Block((TD .020) Tee Stik? Flying that thing is going to make me a regular at the cardiologist office! I'm really thankful to Tony for helping me finally get it dialed in. Whoohoo! These pics are proof that it has actually flown. You never know what you're going to see at SMALL.

So far, these video frames are the best ones I could find...about the only time I could track the thing long enough for the camera to focus was when it was gliding with it's engine shut down.
There may be others buried somewhere, and I'll watch for them!

Awesome and thanks! You actually caught it on video! After getting disoriented with it and recovering it before it was too late, I needed a stiff drink and a nap.

RE: S.M.A.L.L. 2019
Wow !!!
Love the pic reports from Kim and Troy especially when I have a "sometimes you are the bug and sometimes you are the windshield !" kind of day.
Those pics really are medicinal forgetting being the bug for a while and getting a smile on my face again!
Was that Polikarpov I-16 in Nationalist China colors a kit or scratch built?
I need to build a Fokker DR-1 like that one day !! Too cool !!
Can almost hear the Quaker Medallion .15 growl and the Shark Face reed valve Cox screaming !!!!
Fantastic guys !!!
Steve.....

It's single channel, but with a servo. Tony got it from Steve with no radio, and installed one in his hotel room. He mounted the servo vertically, with a pin in it's arm to engage the Jr. Falcon's torque rod, so was able to keep that part of it's control system.

Tony and the Junior Falcon
Perhaps my favorite vintage model flown at the 2019 S.M.A.L.L. was Tony's rescue Carl Goldberg "Junior Falcon". He got the little single channel plane from Steve, installed an engine, and radio system, then tested it at the field.
The .049 powered Jr. Falcon was introduced in the early 1960's (I'm thinking about 1962) as a sibling kit to the larger, .09-.19 powered "Falcon 56".
(In 1976, a version of the larger Falcon, named: "Liberty Bell", was flown coast-to-coast by Bob and Doris Rich in celebration of the nation's bicentennial---Page 3 on the PDF:
https://www.modelaircraft.org/sites/default/files/files/RichRobertBobW.pdf)
Tony's Jr. Falcon was even finished in the original box-art scheme, and watching the 37" span plane cruise the S.M.A.L.L. skys caused some particularly strong flash-back time!
I found one of it's first ads in the April 1963 edition of Model Airplane New (yes, I've got a fairly organized nerd archive), so figure it may have been about a year old at the time.
Staying as close to the original as the moment allowed, Tony positioned a modern servo vertically in the Falcon, using a T-pin to engage the torque rod, which twists (rather than pushes/pulls) a wire yoke on it's rudder.
So, another "Coffee/Model Airplane Morning" draws to a close....

I had a Jr. Falcon in the early seventies. Actually it was a partnership as the other kid's dad gave us an old Citizenship miniature relayless single channel escapement system to fly it with. We got maybe 25 good flights with it on a Golden Bee until one day shortly after launch the radio failed in neutral rudder position and it just flew away off into some forest about a mile from the launch site.

Yeah man...a similar fate awaited so many of these little guys.

It was the first time I had actually seen one fly. It was an exceptionally thought out design. Flew gracefully smooth under power and returned to earth the same way.

Imagine if we had kit prices (and engines/accessories) like in that 1963 ad and today's entry level radio gear prices.
