A Cold, Windy, Fun, Day on Breezy Hill
Some of the Flyers got together today (Sunday, February 20th) for a little windy weather flying in the cold air sweeping over Breezy Hill.
President Ronnie put a flight on his Sig Fazer, with an engine test on his Ultra Stick, while Brad put up a good flight with his Carl Goldberg Ultimate Bipe. Both returned for safe landings in the bumpy air.
Billy logged his monthly flight with his faithful old Cub, before he, Leo and I made a run to St. Louis for a visit to Schaefer's Hobby Shop. Yeah...we really need even MORE hobby stuff!
Like always, a great time with great friends.

Somehow it's always a good day at the field even if the weather isn't.

I was immediately impressed by Billy's blue and white P-51 Mustang by Guillows. The light showing through it's complex structure is impressive to this old hollow log builder.
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah Ken, it always seems to be the way with this bunch...even if the weather forces a retreat to a local restaurant for more airplane talk.
Great guys.

Yeah,
Billy puts me to shame with the speed and focus he has with his projects. Here is the framework of the Mustang he brought to our meeting on the 9th of this month:

That's a beautiful job Kim. Do you know it's weight and covering? Looks like colored tissue but could be something different. I have a couple of Guillows kits and would love to try one again.
Last one I did before the shakes became an issue. Built up wing and fuselage and rubber band powered, but I can only get about 20-25' out of it. Weighty as I doped it up pretty good. If I knew his covering, I think I could reduce that significantly on my next one.

From Billy:
"The covering is very light Silkspan. It has one light coat of dope. I painted it with 50% water and acrylic Apple Barrel craft paint. I then gave it a light coat of Krylon clear gloss. I don't know the weight, but it feels very light. The paint is mostly water that evaporates."

I really like the original post here, not sure if its the comradery, the diehard spirit, or the beautiful planes.

Yeah, this is a great bunch of guys, and the wide variety of interests/pursuits mean you can never tell what might show up at the field!
