USPS rings the bell and Cox goes to war
Seldom do I get to praise USPS, quite the opposite. But, this package arrived two days early and undamaged, a rarity for them.
Perhaps "In my face" as I had asked the seller (in California) to send it FedEx or UPS "As USPS tend to damage my packages and arrives late."
Anyway......pretty pleased as this Cox Army model train set arrived early and undamaged.
New to me. Looking around the internet I find that Cox made at least two different Army sets, this one and one with cannons, tanks, troop carriers etc.. This set looks to be missing a few cars, maybe I can pick up replacements. It looks like the locomotive may have been removed from the box but the rest remain unopened. Looking at the box art, it may not be missing anything, but I wonder about the missing spaces.
Didn't take me long to cure that. Really cheap stuff when compared with most (Hong Kong). The locomotive is as noisy as they come and the railcars and contents are cheap plastic. But the locomotive does run well. It will need some lubrication and running in.
Well, that didn't take long. Seller accepted my offer for this Cox rail gun.
I have a neighbor and good friend, retired Army Sergeant Major one time part of the Honor Guard at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington DC. Impressive event if you have never witnessed it. He's a model train railfan. Think I will just gift him the whole thing once I get it assembled. Model trains are fun, but model airplanes are funner.

Nice train set, Bob, you bring up some rare Cox features that I didn't even know existed, especially trains and a war one at that. And, I am sure that CSM would deeply appreciate such a fine gift. What a way to honor someone who definitely helped people honor those who paid the ultimate price.

F series diesel locomotives began life in the mid 1930's in both freight and passenger configurations. I can't tell if it's a F-2 or a F-7 or any F inbetween.
My neighbor is a pillar of the community. Active member of the Homeowners association, principle maintainer of the roads and infrastructure and ready to help any one in need.

Not one to leave well-enough alone I went kicking the tires on the internet about Cox locomotives and train sets. I found at least three sets of Army themed trains. One is featured here:

Popular, almost 400 replys and I don't know how many views.
So, I got on ebay and looked around. Came up with these, most cheaply bought by making an offer off the sellers asking price.
This one made for AHM, probably Pocher or Riverossi - better quality (It's a search light)
