i think i understand the controls ok, its just when i tried to fly it a few years ago, it wouldnt respond, i panicked and i was using big movements with the controls. i would like to try it again but now it wont even make the motor go or move the servos or anything. i think the reciever is junk

It's hard to say, but a local hobby shop would be able to tell you what is working or not.
Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
will any type of reciever connect with any radio, and will any reciever go in any plane with the right wires?

Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
I just noticed you are from Anoka, my friend used to teach people how to fly RC out at Tri-Valley in Rosemount however the field closed 2010 and I don't think he has done any teaching since. I'll give him a call to see if he would be interested in maybe going out the the field in Ham Lake or something.

It's pretty easy to upgrade the parts if you know what you're doing. You would need a brushed speed controller, (about 30 amps) a transmitter, and a compatible radio. If you are serious about getting into RC, I would recommend looking into a Spektrum Dx6i.
But again, local instruction will be a huge help, and might be the only way.

Brushless is so much nicer.... and about the same price, especially if you get the cheap stuff from china.

Check with local instructor what radio he uses if Futaba get a Futaba if he's a Spektrum Weirdo.....
But if getting a brushless motor you'll need a brushless speed controller as well.

Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
I think he should probably learn to fly before he changes it that much.

im not looking to mod it so it goes faster, ive never really flown a plane so the slower the better. i just dont want to spend alot of $ on a new plane, but i think the reciever/speed control is junk because none of the controls work. i have 2 servos that i think work fine, a brand new battery, a brushed motor, and a radio that all works fine, as far as i know

Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
Let me see if I have a extra receiver laying around. I assume you have a metal antenna on your transmitter? What frequency is it? I may have a matching TX/RX in my garage you can have.

You can use a drop of CA or epoxy to keep it in place. Gorilla glue may work as well, but use it very sparingly. The stuff likes to expand.
Good luck!
last night i tried to plug in the battery in the super cub but it wouldnt respond and i couldnt get the servos to stop buzzing.
Something not right here.
Was the transmitter turned on?
Was it turned on before you connected batt to the plane?
Is it possible to connect batt to the plane the wrong way round?
Is the radio 2.4 or old crystal type/does it have a stubby aerial or a telescopic type?
Once you've turned the TX on, make sure the throttle stick is at the bottom of it's travel before connecting
planes batt.
As far as I see from the tinterweb this model has a Lipo battery, you said above you last tried to use the plane a few
years back, what has the battery been doing all this time? If it's original I bet it's shagged.
If it's not the original have you replaced the battery with the correct type?

I just got off the phone with him, he said it has been so long and he don't have the time to do those things much anymore. So I guess he doesn't want to do it. There are clubs around here that you may want to join.

Those flying fields are getting developed faster than ever so its not uncommon these days to see a club just fall apart or have to move to another distant field.

yes it has a metal antenna, i think the frequency of the reciever is 26.995mhz, and you dont have to give me one of those if you dont want to, its not critical but thank you and im really suprised at how much you guys want to help

i turned on the transmitter first, there is only one way to connect the batt, it is an old crystal type with the telescopic antenna (everything is completely stock), i charged the lipo batt about once or twice a yr because i know its not good for them to sit with no charge, im not sure what shagged means but it doesnt sound good and it probly has been and yes it is the original stock green 11.1v 1300mah 14.4wh lipo batt.

Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
A new battery is relatively cheap, and can swap between different vehicles/aircraft.
Since you are using a crystal radio, looking for parts is getting...challenging. You need to know about your setup in detail if you get something other than the EXACT brand and model you have. THEN you need to know about crystals...
There are a couple synthesized receivers available, but the reviews are hit-and-miss. Since the cost is low, and the reviews seem more "hit" than "miss" I decided to get two, through I have not set up either yet. One is going into my sailplane in the near future as a test bed. I am trying to dodge the 2.4ghz bullet till I (re)learn to fly...(I used to slope glide with modest proficiency about 20 years ago)

would my transmitter from my heli (e-flight blade msr with a 2.4ghz transmitter) work with another 2.4ghz reciever that i would put in the super cub?

Generally, no. 2.4 gig equipment is all pretty much proprietary encoding, so usually only one manf's rcv works with its xmitter. If that; Futaba and Spektrum each have a couple of different, incompatible 2.4 gig encoding schemes.
Earlier you posted that the receiver is a 27mhz unit, which is very old technology. Occasionally still turns up on very old NOS RTF's or big box rc toys. Weird that the cub would use that, but come with a LiPo battery, but there you go.
You might be able to borrow the receiver from your heli and use that in the cub with the heli xmitter. As a trial, at least, and then get another receiver of the same type if that works (so you don't have to keep swapping the rcvr in and out).

Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
The Blade MSR Tx will work with a spectrum or Orange Rx.
Obviously the MSR rx is a no no because it's a combined
Esc,rx,servo unit.
To use the tx with the above you will need a bind plug which
You can make out of an old servo or extension lead,
A pair of pliers and 2 mins of your time.

Re: how do you fly an rc plane?
Don't try it... it's a short range transmitter. Yes it will bind to other spektrum receivers.
