Re: it seems a few of us ride(or used to)motorcycles
I'm a motorcycle enthusiast myself owning 4 currently. 3 of them currently are road worthy and get ridden while the other is seeking some repair. My neighbor in 1968 was in the US Air Force overseas in Germany. He decided that he was in the market for a new bike. He was able to fly into England in which he purchased a brand new 1969 Royal Enfield Interceptor 750. The bike was flown back to Germany and then back to the U.S.. Approx 10 years later just prior to getting married , the bike was sold to a friend he met in Germany and the bike was once again packed and shipped to go back overseas. The bike was ridden and once again put aside with the odometer reading 3200 miles. This bike has spent more miles travelling without the engine running. Last year out of the blue, the same buyer had located my neighbor and stated he would like to sell it back to him. Indeed, the bike once again made it's return trip back to the US. We unloaded the bike and now it's undergoing restoration. A beautiful piece of machinery and a great bit of history in it's whereabouts. I certainly would like to get some pictures as this is just something you don't see too often around these parts. Every now and then a BSA appears and Triumphs, but Norton's and the likes of the Royal Enfield are just not that common. Ken

Made like gun went like a bullet Ken
Sadly the writing was on the wall for the British
M/C industry before the interceptor Was even thought of.
My Dad has 2 Bro's (twins) Barry and Pete.
A couple years before I was born Barry
Had a Norton Jubilee.
Pete had one of the First CB92's into the UK.
Pete rode his to work wearing a suit something
Barry never could because of the oil leaks.
The Honda had an electric starter, was reliable
And even though the engine was half the size
Was faster than the Norton.
Barry was always trying to 'borrow' the Honda.

Re: it seems a few of us ride(or used to)motorcycles
Though I've owned and riden bigger and "badder" bikes, my favorite is a '82 Honda Trail CT110 which I bought new and still ride off-road and usually in the woods of Washington State.
The CT 110 is the "big brother" of legendary Hona Trail CT-90 which probably the most widely recognized motorcycle in the world. Parts for these "old"bikes are affordable and readily available through several vendors. There is little point in posting a picture because these bikes are so common like "belly buttons" they are.
By no means "road bikes" their relative light weight and "step-trough" frames along with eight speed transmissions make them well-suited for trail riding especially for those of us of "advanced years". A "geezer bike" for sure!
If you believe these bikes are no longer popular and valueable, try finding one a good "cheap".

57 years ago! Can't even remember all the bikes I have had!
I do remember there were a lot of motorcycles around as I grew up together with the family version - The motorcycle and sidecar.

Re: it seems a few of us ride(or used to)motorcycles
I have very few photographs left, most were destroyed, but amongst the few (pre digital) are these
1976 -1978 - my first bikes bought new. Well, not quite, my first new bike was a Suzuki B120P - otherwise known as a Super Bloop. It came after the B100P (Get it?)
This is my pal modelling a CB200
Me riding it!
Then the RD200
Then there is Yamaha XS250 - which I don't remember. I had a Blue XS400 and I changed it to Black when I restored it - now I know why!

Re: it seems a few of us ride(or used to)motorcycles
There is now a gap of some 60 bikes.
This was my pride and joy and I had to sell it. I covered 90,000 + miles on it and it still looked like new.
Need must - I ride to work. My expression shows my displeasure. A grimace not a grin!
Quickly back to the real thing.
Followed by a visit to the BMW showroom for the really real thing!

nothing wrong with the ct series
my first bike was a ct70, australia post is still the largest purchaser of the ct110, honda actually make a specific auspost model.
it has a stronger swingarm to carry the extra weight, and doesnt have the hi/low range(4 speed only).
you might recognise the backgroud in these shots... about 2 hours east of seattle.. cant remember the name of the place.
and a couple of weeks after the seattle ride..

Re: it seems a few of us ride(or used to)motorcycles
ado:
Yes, I'm familar with the Aussie CT110 in postal service which is testament to it's rugged durabilty. A CT70 is dangerous becuase it has small wheels and tires making it subject "over the handlebars" ejection of the rider. (Don't ask how I know this.)
The 4 speed with sub-transmission giving eight speeds is well suited the the terrain in which I ride. Seemingly, in low range, my CT Trail 110 would climb a tree if I could hang onto it.

I'll give up my helmet as willingly as seat belts in car.
Yes, helmets and seat belts can injure or kill but the odds are highly against it.
Why is it that helmets are required in sanctioned motorcycle competitions?

Re: it seems a few of us ride(or used to)motorcycles
Ive been riding since i was 7, worked in a bike shop From 14 to 22, from an apprentice mechanic, to a fully certified tech.
Been racing motocross, since my youth, im obsessed with it, starting in march to October i practice at the local track 3 days a week minimum.
I havent raced since 2002 but got back into racing last year on a two stroke, for the fist time in 10 years.... (four strokes ruined the sport ) im also a member of the so called two stroke taliban
Im so out of shape, so i went back to beginner class MX2 from MX1 intermediate, utilizing the new 2 stroke rule change (cc vs cc) and have got a rude awakening.... Damn 250fs have come along way, and the sport got much more competitive.
I also restore post vintage (1981 and up) motocross bikes, currently restoring a 1983 rm 125 to museum quality,
Been thinking of getting into VMX (vintage motocross) racing...
Here's a clue to my forum name... did not want to use my rcgroups name.
08 RM 250, my baby, best bike i ever owned, handles like nothing else!
