hobbico nexstar mini ep
i have the opportunity to buy this at my lhs for $45 http://www.hobbiconexstar.com/nexstar-mini/index.html
what size cox engine would work best for a plane like this? it says auw should be around 25-28oz so i am thinking that a teedee or medallion .09 would work for this, if i could find a carb throttle for one of these engines (if they were ever made) that would be perfect.
Suggestions?
Thanks, MitchG95

Definately a Cox TD 09 or Medallion 09 R/C. Tarno did make carburators for the TD 09. They can be found one ebay from time to time but they can go for $35 and up. You also need a muffler as the idle wont be that low since SPI allows air intake also. Using a muffler helps with the idle using a Tarno carb.
Norvel .074 R/C would be good as well. Has the throttle and muffler.

Re: hobbico nexstar mini ep
You guys are missing the size of that plane. I can't find the prop size, but I'd fly it on a 049 or a 074.
It's very close to this

9x6E prop, got to make sure you have prop clearance.

Re: hobbico nexstar mini ep
I don't think I missed anything.
Ebay plane weighs 18oz and has a WS of 39"
Hobbico EP weighs 24oz and has a 44" WS.
Heavier and more drag with the wider wing = more power required.

Except that fuel weighs less then batteries, which will bring the weight down to pretty close together.

NexSTAR Mini EP 25oz
- Lipo: 4.4oz
- Motor: 1.8oz
- ESC: 1.1oz
Total 17.7oz
Conversion:
17.7oz
+ RC Throttled 049: 1.9oz
+ Full 1oz fuel tank: 1.5oz
+ RX 500 lipo 1.5
+ 9g servo for throttle 0.5 oz
Total 23.1oz
Can save more weight by removing the electric engine mount, but will add some weight with dope.
I think it would be doable, I'd try it.
