Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
There seems to be 2 different types of this rare motor, Rotary Drum .15 Olympic....Type A..Type B.....Which one is worth more? How many Type A were made as too Type B? I have read 50 were made in total....Which is more rare Type A....Type B? Thanks Guys!

Re: Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
The Atwood Olympic with a rotary valve never made it to production. The Dale Kirn Olympic rear reed was Cox's production machine.

Re: Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
I realize the engine was never in production but that still has nothing to do with the question asked Rusty? Which is the rarest of the two engines....Type A or Type B? Another question is what kind of packaging did these engines come with?!

Re: Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
According to Martin Hepperle, the production reed valve Olympic came in a bubble pack. The Atwood Olympic didn't ever come in a package, since it was never sold. That would be the rare one, but I don't see either the reedy or the rotary labeled with an A or B, and they only show one Atwood design on that site. That's my only go-to site for Cox history. If that's not the whole answer, maybe someone else can expand on it.ZACATTACK wrote: I realize the engine was never in production but that still has nothing to do with the question asked Rusty? Well damned if there aren't two. I missed that page. We'll have to wait for the collector guys, somebody here must know.ZACATTACK wrote:http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/cox_olympic_15_rotary.htm

If you want any links to dead eBay ads for bargain engines, let me know.

Re: Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
According to Dan Sitter, (published Cox Collector and guru) there were only 2 that were made in the Type B. (with ears) The rest were all Type A (without ears). Perhaps Mudhen can add to this... is he still around?
Cheers

Yeah, Mud's still here. He doesn't post a lot, but he'll reply if you PM him. And he'll probably look at a thread like this one. Good idea.

In Dan's book those numbers are not confirmed for the type B version. If you find one for sale buy it because you will probably never fine another one in your lifetime.

Buying something is one thing ....getting your bank account raped for one of these is another!! One just sold on E-Bay for $356.00 I think??

Re: Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
I would have paid that! The only two original Cox engines I dont have in my collection are the Olympic Drum Valve and the Strato Bug. Despite trying very hard and being outbid many times I am yet to get my hands on these two.

Re: Bill Atwood Rotary Drum .15 Question?
Yep. like those, only not as expensive. lol
I am always weary when bidding for a Strato Bug on ebay as there are a few fakes out there. Dana Sitter has one up for sale at the moment but it looks pretty junky and made from spare parts.
My time will come.
Cheers

I conntacted Dan on the Strato he is selling. He assured me its all correct just missing the correct length screws to put the back on. 200 is a bargain.
