What Do You Do When It's Too Windy To Fly?
There are alot of windy days here, in Kansas, and it just takes away some of the fun of flying. Really, it is just more of a challenge.
My R/C stuff is not impervious to the wind, but is able to handle it better than my C/L planes. I've flown R/C in 40 mph wind at an open house that the AFB held here, in about 1993. Many of the full-scale airplanes were grounded. The pylon racers around here compete, regardless of the weather, it seems.
We meet at the C/L circles every Tuesday night, and often, it is too windy to fly; so we sit around and talk. About 15 mph was the most wind that I'd flown the Nobler, and the strongest wind that I have attempted to fly C/L. It was okay, but a little bumpy.
I can usually be found in the airplane shop when I can't fly; then, I'm working on something for myself, or some friends. Right now, I have two LIT 1/2A pylon racers for a couple of friends, an ancient Buster C/L in the bones, that needs restored to new, for a friend, my brother's .60 size HOTS he cut parts for, from plans; another friend's two Great Planes F-15 Eagles, that are partially built already-from kits; and the list goes on, not to mention keeping up all the stuff that I fly regularly, and stuff I get a wild idea to whack together, and see if it works. So, I stay busy, even if I can't go flying.
And right, it all revolves around airplanes: I don't ride motorcycles, or race cars, or try new recipes, etc, just airplane stuff.

Build or fix planes. There seems to be always something to fix.

I usually take care of my ever increasing Honey-Do's
From 9PM until bedtime is when I work on models. Engine runs at the crack of dawn! It drowns out my Roosters

Sounds sorta familiar, but the rooster is the neighbors.

Wow!! Another one. I'm a windsurfer too, but not too flash at it though. Didn't take it up until I was 56. I needed some kind of real exercise that was exciting enough to do more than twice. I reckon it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on.Surfer_kris wrote:I go windsurfing and try to get myself airborne...

Yes, I really enjoy it and started doing it about 20 years ago. It has everything, fresh air and lots of adrenaline, plus it is a good way to stay fit too. Even in fairly light winds it will give a great sense of speed. In 10-12 knots of wind we'll zipp around at 15-20knots of boat speed, doing circles around regular sailing boats.

Yeh, I was thinking same. Sweden is awfully near the Arctic Circle. Brrrrrrrrr! I don't even use a wetsuit.fit90 wrote:That water looks awfully cold.

I'd tell you to go fly slope gliders here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Sunflower but the lift doesn't look too particularly good. Or maybe some places here http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1854425

Try to fly anyway then break a plane, then go for a cycle, come home and repair my plane.

Can the mini vapor fly normal or is it always in high alpha?

It can fly normal but I move the CG to the rear so that it will fly slowly when indoors. It has to be flat calm for out doors.

Yes, it can be quite cold here but with two wetsuits on, it is not too bad...
