Flying with Mr. Rusty
Well me and Mr. Rusty finally got together, (at his house) and messed around with some 1/2a stuff. Looked at the planes, TeeDee, and flew the 'Lil Jumpin bean. Got one good flight in, found out there was an air leak in the motor, launched it running backwards, and had a lot of fun. Helped me with some cylinders, too.
Once when we threw a rag in the prop it came loose and spun up again - entirely different motor. Bent the prop screw.

About 12 miles, so it's a 30 minute drive. It's still really neat to have somebody with the same interests within a reasonable distance.
Re: Flying with Mr. Rusty
Yeah we had a good time. We managed to get enough "go" out of it to do some stunts. Got a figure 8 and some loops, including a nice round double loop.

Re: Flying with Mr. Rusty
They got here too late to fly because of a Sunday afternoon Church service . Too bad, I had the Bean and the Stuntman all tuned up and the wagon loaded. But no problem, the days are getting long and there will be lots of opportunities.
We ran a tank in Mudhen's RR1 and Matt's new Tee Dee .049. His little brother JP was there too. We had Matt's TD spooled up to a frightful RPM when the screws started pulling out. Thank goodness the fuel line pulled off. I looked around and I was looking right into the lens of 8 year old JP's video camera. Dang, I would have never told y'all about that, but there will surely be a video of it up soon. We tached it at well over 22,000 RPM. Nice one. We talked about engines and planes, sat under the maple tree and had a coke. Young JP can fly an RC plane too. I'm not sure if that's what they call him, but those are his initials. They're Irish, I bet you can guess what they stand for.
Meanwhile their Dad drove their pickup truck to Sumter to buy a used go-cart. It's a badass cart too, with a Honda 5.5hp 4 stroke and a roll cage. I got a video of them riding it around. I'll put it up later. All in all, big fun.

Garnet and Black Carolina Shaker.
"shaker" comes from the bent rim which doesn't agree with high speed....

Re: Flying with Mr. Rusty
When you repaint it, be sure and get that Garnet mixed right. Lowes probably does a lot of Garnet around here. Ha! I even capitalize it. There was an awesome Ford Fairlane that always showed up at the Blaney Dragstrip back in my racing days called Carolina Shaker. And it truly was rolling thunder. He left a piston rod on the track at about the 1000 foot mark one night. He was back the next week.microflitedude wrote:Garnet and Black Carolina Shaker.
