I'm trying to cook up a deal here.  I'd like the Travelling Engine, but not for the $62 it will cost me to send it back home.  It's coming out here to Greg & I don't want to see him get stuck with the full return shipping cost either, and it would be a shame to have it come all the way out here for only one visit.  I wondered if, to make it fair on all Aussie participants, we combine the total shipping cost from Aussie to Aussie plus the return cost and split it.  That doesn't leave the last man responsible for the large return cost on their own.
So come on fellow Aussies & Kiwis.  Get with the program and join the Travelling Engine syndicate.  Please PM me if anyone else is willing to get on board.  (Actually, it looks like it's nearly as dear to send to New Zealand as to America. Bummer )

Thought I'd bump this back to the top.
Shipping on this thing is really making international travel unviable.  I think I could spend $62 on a Tee Dee .049 and get to keep it.  I know the idea of the program is to get involved and has no material rewards apart from the pleasure of participating, but it's a tough decision to make.  If any other Aussies can get involved it will reduce the cost of getting it back to the USA.  Greg, have you considered my proposition?  If we can't get it sorted out soon then it may be best to just ship in on to Roger to keep it moving.

We should do an aussie kiwi traveling engine mabey babe bee? golden bee?tee dee or something nice that if we lost it would be no biggie.
but first would should see how many people would be interested ? I know that i am!

So Greg, does that mean you're giving the official CEF Traveling Engine a miss? If that's the case, me too. While it would be great to bring it worldwide, it's just not practical. But, my offer still stands.

Ok Jacob, looks like us Aussies are officially off the list.  Get it sent off to Roger Harris and we'll look forward to his report & pictures.
Greg wants to cook up a domestic Aussie version of Travelling engine, so we'll see what happens.  Maybe we can just use a cheap product engine & forget the cost of insurance etc. to keep the cost to participants down.  Maybe things will change if our $s get a little closer.

Well not much to report. The engine arrived about two weeks ago but we've been so  busy with Easter and other happenings that I've not had much of a chance to try and run the Tee Dee.  Well today was the day I had a  it of time so out it came!   We got it mounted up to the stand and gave it a go.  It's a cold day and getting colder. Winds are gusting to a out 40 mph and about 38 degrees Fahrenheit. After 40 minutes of fuel changes, head  head change and a prop change ( to a larger prop) I called it a day. Most I could get was about a 5 second run and she would not come up to speed. I flipped it so many times my arm is sore LOL!  I'm pretty sure my fuel must be a bit on the older side and just won't run in this cool weather.  All in all it was fun to have it here and enjoyed reading through the notebook.

while i have a couple of these engines that i purchased last year, this was my first attempt at running one.

Seriously, glad the engine got to you and you've had a chance to give it a run, even if it didn't work out on the first attempt.  I think we've all had that sort of experience- everything seems in order but for some reason you can't get an engine to co-operate.  Plenty if fuel, plenty of glow juice, plenty of patience, but eventually one of them will run out.  For me, it's usually the glow battery that quits first, closely followed by the patience.  
Ah yes, I've experienced that "flicking arm" ache a few times myself.

Good to hear you had fun with it! Yeah, old fuel and cold temperature can make them hard to needle.

Good to hear from you and that you got a feel for the TE !! the TD series can bee a little awkward till you get the hang of there attitude , That weather makes me shiver the wind has been crazy round here too temps. are down a bit but not that cold . Thanks for the report and looks like your son was very pleased just to get to hold it . Eric

yea... if i get a chance i'll post a couple clips of it trying to run. had it trying to run at low rpm a hand full of times.
pretty sure if i had some fresh fuel she would have responded much better. i have a couple to play with so hopefully this summer i will do some playing.

life has gotten very busy as of late making it hard to spend much time with the hobby but, i am determined to do more playing this year!

Nicholas and I are really looking forward to hosting the TE in Central Florida! Perfect timing too with the spring weather. Trying to think of some interesting shots to get with the engine while she's here. Not sure I'll fly it but will definitely get a solid bench run executed!

That is totally freakin' hilarious! How many times did it hit the floor? Then I could hear the excitement when it leaned out for the last ten laps. What a classic. You must be a great fun teacher.

Guess where I shot these on my own traveling engines (that often travel with me when I hit the road)?

Nicholas and I ran the engine last weekend on a nice, warm Orlando morning on the test stand. Got a few runs on her with the 5x3. RPM peaked at 18,950 running 25% Cox Fuel.
I'm actually headed to the Cape on May 30 for a cruise but I'm not sure if it's okay to hold the engine that long. I return on June 4. I'd be able to get some neat shots and not sure I'd get over there before since it's about an hour from home base. Is it worth the wait?
There are some really neat posts of this traveling engine but one of my favs is on the first page of this thread from Kim with images of the engine in flight from the plane it's mounted on. Very cool!

We decided not to fly the engine as my 1/2a plank-wing models with my limited skill might compromise the safety of the engine.

In the meantime, here's a run video:

Looks like you two had some fun there! You can tell that Nicholas is proud of his dad where he say's; "can't see you".. I like the glow-clip setup and little tin tank that you were using!
