Eagle in the Walnut Tree

Eagle in the Walnut Tree
Headed out to the shop this morning, and spotted our National Symbol, looking pretty miserable, perched in the walnut tree out in the cow lot. The little branch seems barely eagle-rated, but he was making it work.
He or she is just now getting his white head and tail feathers, which puts the age at four or five years.
I see them fairly often around here, but don't get a lot of good photo opportunities. So, I just stood under the eave of the shed and took photos, waiting for the eagle to launch. He finally left, catching me off-guard and so I didn't get any good push-off photos.

Re: Eagle in the Walnut Tree
I always enjoy talking wildlife Kim.
We have an old hunters cabin on our property and this past winter I noticed a Red Shouldered Hawk feeding on a deer carcass that had died overnight (Brutal winter here in WV last year) . Got my camera and took a picture.
I was amazed at how close to him I got before he flew away.
Four years ago a pair of fawns "adopted" me. They would visit five or six times a year over the next two years always at the same time, about 10 in the morning when I was in the garage. They grew out of spots into first year deer when I noticed one was a Buck.
They chewed on my flowers and generally enjoyed themselves. They were always together, unusual as Bucks usually tend to be solitary. My wife took videos. The buck enjoyed pushing me around. Last time I saw him was about a year ago a beautiful 3 point buck, he was down by the pond. I went down to say hello and he followed me right on my heels back up to the house. That was the last time I saw him.

Re: Eagle in the Walnut Tree
Definitely liking this thread also! Here in Rhode Island in the warm season, there are a lot of "Turkey Vultures" ( a fairly large raptor with a wingspan of between 140-170cm) that can be spotted by "finger-like" feathers protruding from it's wing-tips. Not the most "handsome" bird when perched.. but watching them soar on thermals is a thing of beauty.
