Tach Race Fuel and Prop Update

Tach Race Fuel and Prop Update
Mark, Chris, and I have been looking at some changes in the fuel and prop type used in the upcoming Tach Race. Looks like we're leaning toward 24 or 25 % Nitro, and going with a Cox Grey 5-3 for a prop. The consideration for the fuel change was to put the engine run in the realm of what is typically run by modelers, as with the use of the Cox propeller.
I'm good with it, and figure the switch away from the APC prop might help avoid my having a personalized coffee cup at the local emergency room.
As always your comments are welcome.

Yep, those APC's are sharp!
Seriously though, you may want to look into some finger protection flipping all those engines.
Tach Race Fuel & Prop Update.
Hi Kim:
Yes, your suggested prop & fuel change sounds just fine by me. Good Luck!
Cheers, Paul

I think it was Andrew that told me APC was an acronym for :awfully painful cut

Re: Tach Race Fuel and Prop Update
I was tinkering with a good running freshly rebuilt Black Widow in the shop this morning. I made 4 runs comparing Sig 25 to Glowplugboy 24. In two runs on each, the Glowplugboy ran smoother and was easier to needle, plus ran an extra 30 seconds. Un-scientific, but notable to me. So if that trend continues, I'll use Sig for the fast rotaries and Glowplugboy for the reedies. I recently tried Sig because I thought the lubrication would be a safer choice for the TD and Medallion.
I'll try to duplicate the results. If anyone is interested in trying, I'd like to see if it's a fluke or generally valid.

Thanks Mark for your assistance in doing that. Also thanks to Warren for help with the photo's.
A combined effort is often better than a solo effort especially when the solo guy isn't
all that computer literate!!
Unlike some, I certainly believe in the sharing of information amonst my fellow modellers.
Cheers, Paul
P.S. I ran my first reed crankcase pressure fuel system today. No big numbers, but it starts & runs fine...
