Two crushed 1965 Mustangs and model airplanes
I referenced this in a previous post about how my son was having his two mustangs transported here to West Virginia from Denver.
Seems somewhere around Indianapolis the transporter had engine problems and called for a wrecker. After getting hitched up, the wrecker was pulling the disabled truck and the trailer when an inattentive driver of an eighteen wheeler slammed into the back of the trailer crushing it's contents.
The red convertible had been in the family for about twenty years, the black fastback was built by my son from a rust free body with everything being rebuilt or up graded. He hand sanded it himself and had all the body seams filled in and professionally painted. The front and rear valances were hand fitted and welded. It was meant to be a forever car.
I got the call first from the broker that I have dealt with before. She was devastated as she knew all about these cars. She asked me if I would break the news to Mark.
Two weeks later, the cars are still in the container of which the insurance company has taken possession. After everything has been processed....Marks insurance Co., the transporters, the wreckers, the company that owned the eighteen wheeler then my son-in-law and I will head to Indy to pick up what’s left.
At my suggestion, Mark packed several model airplanes, motors and r/c radios in the cars. They will be nice and safe there I told him and the household goods mover will not have a chance to crush them. So much for Dad’s advise.
According to the insurer the Fledgling (pictured) was the only model airplane survivor, the rest are in splinters.

Re: Two crushed 1965 Mustangs and model airplanes
If there is something that for a non-American like me means a genuine US product of pride, I would mention 2 things off-the-cuff: Ford Mustang and COX (the third would be Levi's jeans).
You may call me narrow-sighted with this short list, which in fact is way longer.
So I feel pity for the damage suffered by you, and sad for the Mustangs. (I hope at least the COX planes inside were left intact).
