Poly urethane (spar) i have had this on mine for 30+ years with no problems , my starter caddy has the same and has been sprayed many a times . Are those joints Glued also ?

Polyurethane is very fuel resistant.

Glued and nailed. Water based poly? Shucks my battery just a hair too thick to fit between dividers.

Stinky polyurethane. Water based poly washes off with alcohol which is a primary ingredient in our fuel.

I agree. Thos is what you want to use. It's the best stuff

OTOH you can get away with just plain stain. Unless you plan on shooting leftover fuel from your syringe into the box.

I was going to mention Minwax "Helmsman" spar-urethane. It's good stuff. Indoor/outdoor.. and tough as nails. It may "yellow" that unstained wood though.. so you might want to apply some Minwax wood-stain before applying the urethane.

It's too bad your battery won't fit.. but it's pretty big (and heavy..) for such a small tote. Here's an idea that could work for you. Buy a pair of 6V "ALKALINE" lantern batteries and wire them in series with a short jumper-wire. That will provide 12V for your little panel.. and will last for quite a while. A 6V lantern battery is 2.5" square. A pair (standing) "side by side" requires 5-1/4" x 2.5" of area. They're 4.5" tall including the spring-contacts. You could tape them together to make a block and secure them to the inside-wall with a bungee-strap. Cut-in your little panel just above them on the side without the bottle-opener.. (you gotta' keep that bottle-opener)..

Good score. I also like your power panel. I picked one up identical last year and it has been a very nice little panel when I use it with no problems. I also like the little led light to tell you if your plug is good or bad too.

Question, should I put a fuse inline if I want to run a 1/2A electric starter? Can it be done as the instructions doesn't mention that. Still waiting on my new battery.

Kem Cook had spoke of putting a fuse in the power wire to the panel , i don't have one in mine but i have burnt up one panel in 30 yrs.

I would put a fuse on it. 10 amp or so, so that the fuse is rated way above anything that you will run, but just in case there's a shortcut somewhere it will protect your wiring and the battery. Just keep a few spare fuses in the box too
