LiPo Battery for Starter
LiPo Battery for Starter
I found this board. It is a step down DC-DC converter and voltage can be adjusted to 1.5 Volts with trimpot and handle up to 5 Amperes. I will try it with 7.4 Volt LiPo battery for starting Cox engines.

Re: LiPo Battery for Starter
I received the board. Firstly I fixed the heatsink on IC with supplied double sided adhesive tape and soldered a suitable connector to board input for changing LiPo battery when necessary. I opened a hole on top of starter box and soldered the glow plug clip cables directly on board output. Bolts and nuts can also be used on box top for glow plug clip connection instead of this. I adjusted 7.4 Volts 1350 mAh LiPo battery output voltage to 1.5 Volts with trimpot. Board has been fixed on battery with hook and loop strips. Whole assembly easily fits in Cox battery box. Foam blocks can be placed in box for packing.

I like your idea. I found on the 'bay a similar voltage reducer with a digital display that you can toggle between the input and output voltages. I'll try it with a 7.2 volt 800mah NiCad battery as I already have a few of them. Can the glow plugs handle 2 volts?

Cox glow plugs works with 1.5 Volt. Higher voltage damages Cox glow plugs.
Keep the glow plug cables short to avoid current drop.

Thanks, don't want to be burning out glowheads. Now I just need to find a glow fuel resistant clear plastic container to mount everything in so I can see the digital readout.
