New Years Day Fun Fly! The Video

New Years Day Fun Fly! The Video
The Breezy Hill Flyers (three of us, anyway) had a big time at the New Years Day Fun-Fly at Cairo Regional Airport.
An overcast day, with a 10-15 mph wind out of the northwest allowed us good flying in spite of the cool temps. The air was actually quite smooth once the planes were up and away from the surface turbulence.
Steven, Billy, and I had a great time enjoying the company of the small group that gathered again this year. Herb Prater was on hand, with his soup and signature cheesecake that was enjoyed by everyone. Arnold and Mark showed up with their planes, bringing the total count of flying machine to 6.
Billy had his faithful Cub, with Steven bringing his T-28. I had my old, GoPro-packing Lazy Bee, and Neal's Sportavia with key fob cameras taped to it's wing tips.
Seeing Neal's Sportavia circling high over Cairo's ramp REALLY brought back memories of our great Sunday flying sessions in the 1980-90's.
Got some great photos and video.
Now, time to prep for the "Breezy Hill Frozen Finger Fun-Fly" this coming Saturday!!!!
First time in a long time that there was THIS much room left in the van when headed for a Fun-Fly:

Yeah, it was fun. I missed out on the chili (playing with toy airplanes), but got some great soup, and cheese cake!
Eric and I are gonna have a flight of his Dad's Sportavia sometime soon.
My Lazy Bee has two wings---the original 40" span and it's 50" wing. The short span makes it REAL snappy, spinning like a pinwheel, with a stalled, outside snap I named "The Lazy Bee Chicken Flop".
The long wing makes lifting from water easier and makes for more stable videos.

Re: New Years Day Fun Fly! The Video
Thanks Guys!!!
I like to joke that the REAL fun begins when I'm back home, with a blanket around my shoulders and a space heater under my chair, hunkered over my computer, editing videos and photos while remembering the crazy stuff that gets discussed in our bull sessions!
Missing out on the chili was a small disappointment, but I was worried about the slowly rising wind, and wanted to get in some good flights before it got crazy. Luckily, it peaked at about 10-15 mph, and we got to fly on into the afternoon.
HOWEVER...the thick, homemade soup brought by our Herb WAS fantastic...and I was lucky to get that!
It's looking like some more reasonable temps for the Frozen Finger Fly-In, and I'm gonna see if some of the Flyers will allow me to chase their models with my new Mavic Drone...PROVIDING that I can also get them to fly in a reasonably straight line !!!!!

Kim, once again superb videos. Great flights with dead stick landings in windy conditions, right at your toes. Can’t get much better than that! Cool!

Re: New Years Day Fun Fly! The Video
It was way too windy to fly for us on New Years. I ran engines on the test stand and enjoyed the company. My buddy Dan brought out his Cox tether car with the Cameron.19.

Thank you Mauricio!
The Lazy Bee has an O.S. .10 for power, and I typically use 15% Sig Champion Fuel in it.
The Sportavia's .049 (and all my other ones) gets 20%-35% fuel from Sig or Glowplug Boy (Fitz Fuels) at http://fitzfuels.com/index.php?
I use Key Fob cameras on my smaller models. My favorite types are apparently going out of style, and being replaced by these...which I have no experience using:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-HD-Spy-Camera-DVR-In-Car-Key-FOB-Remote-Chain-Hidden-High-End-Camera-sr/312118894576?hash=item48abbc5ff0:g:wgwAAOSwVL5a4Vfp
My favorite larger cameras are the cube-shaped Go Pro "Session" cameras, as they seem to produce less impact on a plane's flight trim than the rectangular models. My Lazy Bee carries two of them with no problem.
Go Pro Session Camera:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/GoPro-HERO5-Session-4K-HD-Action-Cam-Black/273632116455?epid=26019365595&hash=item3fb5bebee7:g:~3QAAOSwEVlcKMwN
I've gotten all my Key Fob cameras from Ebay, and other than one which just out-right stopped working, I've had fairly good luck. The biggest thing with the Key Fob cameras is that their batteries start to lose their ability to take a full charge, so I try to wait 'till right before launch to charge them.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Eric!!!
Yeah, Billy LOVES wind!!!! The Weird People I hang out with!!!
The sun-dial looking thing is a "tetrahedron"...fancy word for a big weather vane. It's MUCH easier for a pilot to see than a wind sock, and gives him an instant indication of the wind direction on the field.
It can also help pilots who are just passing by at altitude for those RARE few of us who still use pilotage for navigation. It is surrounded by a "Segmented Circle" which can indicate non-standard landing patterns (usually when there's a heavily-populated area or mountain in the way) for pilots who are unfamiliar with the airport.
