COX engines in movies
Just saw an old but brutally funny Leslie Nielsen movie "Wrongfully accused" with even a COX powered RC plane in it:
It is in the last seconds when you hear the unmistakable COX sound!!
Anybody knows of similar COX appearances?

Parody of two movies, Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner and Hitchcock's North by Northwest with Cary Grant but most of all Eva Marie Saint. Watched it on TCM free two nights ago.

I have seen (hasn't everybody) "The Fugitive" Andras, but missed "Wrongfully Accused." But yes, Leslie Nielson can dead-pan a joke with the best of them. Steve Martin too especially in "Planes Trains and Automobiles."
I'm not a big movie fan, especially those produced after the 1970's when they started dropping F-Bombs like snow flakes in a New Hampshire Blizzard. I'm a long way from a prude, 20 years in the Navy, but I have my limit and run to the Smithsonian Channel, PBS, and Turner Classic Movies to get away from that stuff.
If the gratuitous bomb is the best Hollywood writers can come up with maybe they should go back to school and increase their vocabularies rather than contribute to the dumbing down of America.
That said, Steve Martin's verbal exchange with the Marathon agent at the terminal in PT&A was pure gold.

Re: COX engines in movies
I agree Bob I also do not like aimless F-bombing and many of the films are dubbed here with excellent dubbing dialogues and Hungarian character actors lending their voices..dubbing at least mitigating the Fbombs a bit.
There are some movies though that without vulgar language would be less authentic.e.g.those of my favorit actors Deniro and Pesci et al

RE: Cox engines in movies
Honestly, I can never remember seeing a Cox engine or any model aircraft engine in movies (TV yes but not movies).
I have avoided movie theaters for the most part, except James Bond, over the last 25 year span.
I will only devote time to watch a full length movie on TV if it's the caliber of Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, African Queen, or The Thin Man anyway.
The F bomb really turns me away and in my opinion there are only a few times in history where you could justify it.
Like, George Custer topping the hill at Little Big Horn...OH F... !!!
Or the Mayor of Hiroshima , WTF... was that !!!!

Re: COX engines in movies
There have been a few limited mentions of Cox products in cinema and TV. The 1st one I remember is the Mercedes race car purchased by the Beaver, with his $10 birthday cash. Another was in an episode of My Three Sons, where Robbie intentionally looses the airplane contest, so his friend wins. And If I remember correctly, there was a Wen Mac used in a spy Vs Spy episode of UNCLE.
Should be referenced to them somewhere in here, as we did have a thread on it a while back.

Radio Flyer
This 1992 movie features a flying-machine built by two young boys (brothers) made from a Radio Flyer wagon and powered by a pair of glow engines that the boys continually refer to as "Cox-engines". I don't think that they were actually Cox engines.. but I could be mistaken. They were larger-displacement than your typical Cox .049.. and didn't resemble your typical Cox engine. I suppose that they could have been Conquests.. but I doubt it.
The engines can't be seen in this movie-trailer.. but it's a powerful film.
There are some scenes that would be upsetting to certain individuals.

Re: COX engines in movies
A PT-19 trainer complete with product engine is shown on the Red Green Show (not movie however).
He returns to "playing" with the plane several times during the episode.
Another CL model airplane clip. Although, I don't believe the plane has a Cox engine in it, but he mentions "049".

Re: COX engines in movies
Unfortunately, I missed the live show he did here in Portland about three months ago. This was his last time to tour, so I'll never get to see him live...

My favorite RC movie scene is the pterodactyl in WarGames, but no engine.

Re: COX engines in movies
Opie had a Wen-Mac Dauntless in his bedroom in one episode of The Andy Griffith Show and a Turbo jet in another but I don't recall him ever flying them.
